—i
Washington—Banks throughout the

tor tne tPderal reserve hanks soon to
be established. It is believed by cne
i reasury Department that all the dl

have been selected at the end of
three weeks and certainly within a
month. The duty of selecting class
C directors for the banks will then
devolve upon the federal reserve
board, which Is only partly organized.
Two vacancies on tile proposed board
still remain. President Wilson and
Secretary McAdoo have had several
recent conferences concerning these
appointments and the list probably
will he completed this week.
(.narles S. Hamlin, assistant secre
tary of the treasury, a New England
man, Is very generally believed to he
the choice of the admiiristration for
governor of the board and E. C.
Simmons of St Louis, is much dis
cussed as the probable member from
the middle west. Five su.tes of ol

will make up the federal reserve
hoard, together with the secretary of
the treasury and the comptroller of
the currency. The offices adjoin

“The Day of 24 Hours"
Subject of Discussion
Paris.—“ The Pay of 24 Hours” was
the subject of a report by Dr. Alfred
Georg, president of the Geneva cham
ber of commerce to the International
<’ongress of chambers of. commerce
here today.
Switzerland, he said, was ready to
adopt the twenty-four hour day, and
the Swiss government would author
ize it If it did not fear complications
from the fact that two of the four
neighboring countries—Germany and
Austria-Hungary Htil! kept to the old
system of dividing the day Into 12-
hour parts. France, Italy, Belgium,
Spain and Portugal have adopted the
24 hours’ day.
Me urged the need of Its universal
adoption. “It is often difficult he
said, "to fix the time of departure or
arrival of letters and telegrams, un
der the old system, and it almost goes
without saying that the reading of the
time tables and the Interests of all
transport enterprises would be greatly
facilitated hy the 24 hours’ day.”
Coughs and Colds Weaken the System
Continued Coughs, Colds and Bron
chial troubles are depressing and
weaken the system. Loss of weight
and appetite generally follow. Get a
60c bottle of Hr. King’s New Discov
ery today. It will atop your cough.
The first dose helps. The best medi
cine for Stubborn Coughs, Colds and
all Throat ami Lung Troubles. Mr. O.
H. Brown, Muscatine. Ala., writes:
"My wife was sick during the hot
summer months and I honestly be
lieve Hr. King's New Discovery saved
her life." Good for children. 50c and

THE SERVANT
QUESTION SOLVED
So Far as This Lady is Con
cerned —She Doesn’t Seem
to Need One.
Pollock, La—Mr*. T S. Blair, of
this town, has the following to say,
which should be of interest to women
generally: "For months, my health
was very bad, and the medicines I took
did not seem to do me any good.
I was very weak and nervous, and
some days, I could not be up.
I asked my husband to get me a
bottle of C’ardui, the woman's tonic,
to try, and before I had taken one bot
tle I was up and doing my work. Be
fore I commenced taking Cardui, I had
such spells I was not able to do any
thing. Now, X have only taken three
bottles of Cardui in all, and I feel
fine.
A few months ago I weighed 135
pounds. Now I weigh 158, and I do
all my own work, cook, wash and milk
—and feel like I did when I was
‘sweet sixteen.’
Taking Cardui has cured me.”
As a relief from the distressing
symptoms of womanly ailments, noth
ing has been found during the past 50
years that would take the place of
Cardui.
Its superiority is still unquestioned
as a mild, building tonic for cases of
womanly weakness where tired nature
needs help. Made from purely vege
table ingredients, Cardui has no bad
after effects and can do you nothing
but good.
Try Cardui.

made from roots and herbs, has been
the one effective remedy In such cases.
