THE AUGUSTA HERALD, AUGUSTA, GA.
Stone Won First Game of Mis Career
In Sallie League—The Score Six to One
Combacks Seemed to Have No Trouble in Winning Game—
Clark and Shaw Rapped Pill Out of the Garden With Two
Men on Bases. Camnitz and Smith Working for Colum-
bus Were Hit Freely.
Columus.—Stone copped his first
game in South Atlantic League base
ball yesterday afternoon when he de
feated the Foxes by a score of 6 to 1.
Stone was tight In the pinches and
allowed only six scattered hits, while
Camnitz and Smith, working for Co
lumbus, were hit freely. There seemed
no trouble at all for the Augusta lads
to win, In fact the victory*was easy.
.Clark and Shaw both negotiated home
runs with two men on bases. Every
man on the Augusta team had no
trouble, with the exception of Stone
' and Maokert, in connecting with the
pill. Shaw was the hard-hitter yes
terday, out of five times at bat ho
registered three hits and one of them
was out of the garden. Mackert seems
to be the original “hard luck” lad on
the team. 'While heading for second
he was hit on the ribs by a batted
hall and Incidentally was called out.
"Mac" should be getting used to this
kind of play by now as he Is very
frequently hit.
