PART OF ATLANTA WENT
CRAZY WITH THE HEAT’
Atlanta. —Well, It couldn’t last. Part
of Atlanta has gone “crazy with the
heat.” Yesterday and Sunday were
busy days with the hospital emergen
cy ward, the police and the coroner.
Suicides, attempted suicides, hold
ups, near-murders and other “crimes
passionels” as they call them in the
science books, followed one another in
rapid succession, apparently proving
the contention of the professors that
humanity is mere prone to kick over
the lamp and raise rough house gen
erally in extremely hot weather than
any other time.
The papers today print in one col
umn story, ten separate items, none
especially thrilling or interesting, each
Item telling of the efforts of a sep
arate individual toward self-slaughter
or homicide or robbery.
One happy feature of the situation,
however, is that only one suicide was
successful and none of the would-be
murders resulted fatally.
THE HEAT DID IT.
Atlanta. —The heat has broken up at

leaf fan, while the perspiration drip
ped from his brow.
into the parlor came wifie.
"John, dear, It’s Sunday afternoon,
so put on your coat and collar, and
let's go for a nice walk.”
Dear John yawned and opined it
was too hot to go for any kind of walk.
Whereupon wifie went out and
