The Trophies The following were the trophies pre sented: Silver fruit stand for highest stand ing in amateur target events; won by Mr. Walter Huff, of Macon. Silver pitcher, second prize; won by Mr. Janies Barrett, of Augusta. Silver flower vase, for amateurs hav ing score over all register target events; won by Mr, Barrett by score of 468 out of a possible 500. Gold watch fobs were presented to Messrs. Barrett, Jones, Yancy, Hill, Cates, Dunbar, Allen and Roberts, for extra high standing in the match. In the professional cioss Mr. Walter Huff made a record of 463 out of a possible 500: Mr. Freeman, 460 out of 500; Mr, Holt, 415 out of a possible 450. Mention should be made of the shooting of Mr. Clayton Grant, of Wil mington. N. C. Yancy, of Rome—all having a score of 93 out of a possible 100 birds. Mr, Barrett was the lucky man at the finale, the scores showing Barrett 78 out of 80 birds, Jones, 76 out of 80. Yancey dropped out first and then Jones, From what can be learned, If Au gusta does not land the 1915 shoot, Atlanta stands the best show. Championship Scores. Timms 62 Jim Barrett won a number of hand some trophies, including a solid gold watch fob, $95 in money and a number of silver trophies, loving cups, etc. NEGRO TEACHERS HAVE HELPFUL INSTITUTE The Teachers’ Institute for Colored Teachers at Mauge Street school closed Its third day yesterday. Miss Mary Meriwether, a thoroughly train ed and consecrated young white lady who is at the head of Bethlehem [louse in this city, delivered a very i helpful lecture on "Social Service.” She represents the Woman’s Home Mission Board of the Southern Meth odist Church, and her work is 'highly appreciated by the colored people of the city. Following the morning lecture, the regular teaching exercises of the day were taken up. Forty-five minutes were spent in demonstrating methods of teaching the English language in I primary grades; and in regular order, demonstrations were given in how to teach sewing in rural districts, a | ihorough drill was given in the use l of phonics and the closing lesson, teaching of the day, was given on how to teach multiplications, divis ion and fractions to children. FIRST GEORGIA MELONS COME FROM SPARKS, GA. Sparks, Ga.—The first shipment of watermelons from here waa made yes terday when two cars left here for At lanta. They were shipped by E. W. McCranie, Frank Griffin and J. Olbbs, who went to Atlanta to market those two with five more cars to leave here today. The outlook Is very good in this sec tion for a bumper crop of melons and cantaloupes. The weather conditions have been good here for the last few days and will mean thousands of dol lars to the farmers' corn and cotton crops COUNTY OFFICERS ASS’N ELECTS ITS OFFICERS Indian Springs, Ga.—The County Of ficers Association of the State of Geor gia closed sessions today.
