SEA GULLS EVENED UP THE
SERIES WITH THE COMBACKS
Bernsen’s Double, Sabrie’s Sacrifice, Clark’s Error, An In
field Out and a Single By Cates Gave the Gulls These Two
Runs—Fielding of Brouthers and the Two First Basemen
Were Features of the Game.
Charleston, S. C.—The Sea Gulls
evened up the series with the Au
gusta Combaeks in yesterday’s game
by def«stting them by the score of 2
to 0. Bernsen’s double, Sabrie's sac
rifice, Clark's error, an infield out
and a sinble by Cates gave the Gulls
these two runs. Until the seventh
inning but one hit was made off
Cochran. Manager Hamilton of the
local club was fined 10 and put out of
the game for kicking. Seven twirlers
again figured in the game, four with
the Augusta crowd and the other
three with the Gulls. The fielding
of Manager "Babe” Brouthers and
the two first basemen were the fea
tures of the game.
Manager Brouthers, acting upon
instructions received ftrom President
Kalbfleisch, of the Augusta club, is
protesting every game played in
which Outfielder Shaw is barred by
a ruling of President Corish that
Shaw is not eligible. The game of
Thursday atternoon was protested but
as the Combaeks were the victors
Brouthers withdrew the protest. The
game of yesterday was protested.
Both clubs are now playing “even
ball,” and therefore the winner for
today could hardly be picked. Its
simply a toss up.
