fjOME EDITION VOLUME XIX, No. 172. RECEIVER FOR MAN'S VISCERA 10 MCOURT Gase Unique in Annals of U. S. Supreme Court Docketed Sat urday. To Pass on Ruling in Fight For $1,000,000 In surance Carried By Florida Capitalist Washington.—A case unique In su preme court annals was docketed to day when an appeal reached that tri bunal from a Maryland court order di recting appointment of a receiver for the vital organs of a dead man. The case grows out of the fight over the million dollars insurance carried by Edward 0.. Painter, a capitalist, of Jacksonville. Fla., when he fell over hoard from a ferryboat at Jacksonville April 21, 1913 and was drowned. Painter was seized with violent vom iting and when he went to the rail of the boat he fell into the water. Upon recovery of his body his vital organs were sent by family physicians to Bal timore for examination. Dr. Charles Glasor, in whose custody they were placed, was enjoined by the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Com pany from turning the organs over to the widow and daughter for burial be fore this company, which had issued an accident polity to Painter, had an op portunity to examine them. At the in stance of the insurance company a re ceiver then was appointed to take charge of the organs and to make a chemical examination on the ground tha 1 the insurance policy provision giv ing the company a right of examina tion. was superior to any property right the widow or daughter might mave. It is for review of this decision that the case today was brought to the supreme court. PROBE ITU FRAUDSCHEMES Michaele Riccio to Conduct In vestigation. Defrauded of Thousands of Dollars. Sandula says he sent the money he col lected to the head of the clique in New York, receiving therefor ten per cent commission. FAVOR A THIRD MAJOR LEAGUE Nat’l Baseball C immis3iion Impressed With Visws of President Barrow of Inter national League. New York.—The national commis sion, the supreme court of baseball, looks with favor on the proposal to establish a third major league. TljiS was the announcement made by Presi dent Barrow, of the International Teague, who, with other members of that league, conferred with the com mission in session here today. According to Barrow the project vya.s fathered by Ban Johnson, president ot the American League, and is aimed to check the invasion of the Fedeial I.eague. Though tentative as yet, Barrow said the plan as discussed called for a league embracing eight clubs, four in the east and four in the west. Baltimore would be among them. Barrow said further that the com mission looked with favor on knock ing out the draft rule from the Class AA leagues as another method of checkfrufting the Federals. The commission gtill was In session when the International League presi dent made this statement. When the commission meeting ad journed Ban Johnson confirmed what Barrow had said and added: deal is as good as consummat ed. Borne sort of announcement will probably be made within a week or ten days.” Clubs from the International League In the east Rnd the American Asso ciation in the west will make up the new circuit If the proposal Is carried out.
