IS. ALSOP IN
MIDNIGHT HIT
Making Round of Tango Cases,
Former Georgia Belle Goes to
Sleep in Taxi.
New York—Mrs. Effie Pope Hill Al
sop, the former Georgia belle who left
thu South to become the dashing young
wile of an aged Pittsburg millionaire,
Edward B. Alsop, today is trying to re
collect the sequence of events in a gay
taxi pilgrimage that began early last
night at No. 245 West Forty-seventh
street and culminated in the midnight
court of Magistrate Murphy.
All reports indicate that the pretty
young woman’s tour ol the tango and
cabaret palaces was inaugurated in a
quiet and unostentatious manner. It
gradually approached a climax of gayety
and revelry, and, having readied this
point, diminished until it dropped to the
unexciting stage where Mrs. Alsop was
soundly asleep and snoring in the taxi
cab which had been taking her from
place to place in her round of pleas
ure. •
Driver Takes Her to Station.
“Mike" Hays, an urbane and sophisti
cated taxi driver, was the driver of the
car. His wide experience told him that
if he wished to make certain of his fare
that was registered on the merrily
clicking dial he had best take the sleep
ing beauty to the police station. This
he did. and a charge of intoxication
promptly was lodged against the ele
gantly attired young woman.
When slie opened her eyes on things
worldly again she was being led from
the station to Magistrate Murphy's court.
The magistrate looked over his judicial
glasses and recognized the young wom
an who had startled Broadway not more
than six months ago by Insisting on do
ing a tango among the crowds %at were
on their way to the theaters and other
places of amusement.
Mrs. Alsop gazed on smroundings that
looked familiar. Arraigned with her
were the usual catch of prisoners made
by the police on night beats. A rather
stern-appearing judge was looyng down
upon her. Tears gathered in her eyes
just as they gathered six months ago
and melted the severity of the magis
trate.
“I know' who you are, madam,” said
Murphy. "I know all about you. I had
hoped never to see you in my court
again, but 1 am going to let you go."
Tears changed to smiles. The young
woman flashed a look of triumph at the
taxi driver and vanished from the court
room. She stepped Into the open air to
find herself surrounded by a cordon of
newspaper reporters. She beat a quick
retreat. A gallant court attendant vol
unteered to save her from the young in
formation seekers. That ended the ex
citing adventures of Mrs. Alsop for one
night.

USE OF CALOMEL IS
RAPIDLY FALLING OFF
Fewer People Risking Dangerous Drug
—Thousands Taking Dodson’s
Liver Tone Instead.
The use of calomel, which is a poison
and a form of mercury, seems to be
decidedly diminishing nowadays. Dod
son's Liver Tone takes its place so re
liably in cases of constipation and liver
trouble that its popularity is spread
ing more widely all the time.
Dodson’s Liver Tone is a harmless
vegetable liquid. What calomel does
unpleasantly—often with danger—
for constipation and sluggish liver,
Dodson's Liver Tone does for you
safely and pleasantly, with no pain and
no gripe. It does not interfere in any
way with your regular business, hab
its diet.
So successful, so reliable and so pop
ular a remedy has its imitators, natu
rally. But beware of them. You can
easily detect the difference.
Dodson never makes extravagant
statements. His Liver Tone has been
made from the first to take the place
of calomel. He says that it “livens the
liver,” overcomes constipation agree
ably and makes you feel good. If you
are not satisfied completely with Dod
son’s Liver Tone, your druggist will
hand back the purchase price (50c.) to
you cheerfully, instantly and without
question. Hence you run no risks to
health or pocketbook in giving it a
trial.
