(By J. H. S.)
After a great deal of beating about
the bush and bringing up of other
matters concerning the Augusta base
ball club that should not have been
brought up at the time, President Fin
ish finally decided, with the backing
up of the league directors, that Player
Shaw was eligible, and therefore wired
Umpire l*auzon to permit him to play.
However, tho games protested by
Brouthers on account of
Shaw not being allowed to play were
passed up.
Well, Augusta got what she wanted
tSltuw in tho game), so why should
there be any further talk on the sub
ject? It's always best to let a thing
like this rest, that Is. If this league
Is going to be a congenial one.
There mis a called meeting this
morning In the offices of President
Kalbflelsch of the Augusta baseball
directors at 11 o'clock. This meeting
was called for the purpose of talking
over the general buslines of the club.
"Bob" McWhorter was scheduled to
hold ,i little conference with President
Kalbflelsch this morning, but for some
unknown reason be failed to show up.
It was later learned nthat It was Im
possible for him to appear at this time
imt would do so this afternoon, do
by tomorrow it will be known as to
whether the \ugosta club will have
the servtcea of "Bob."
The Combaeks will arrive home to
morrow morning and will prepare to
meet the Albany Babies tn the after
noon. Come on, "Babe;" let's cop the
opener; It's needed, for ’twns rather
a disastrous trip for the old team re
cently. •
First Baseman Berger stated to a
Herald representative this morning
that if things are ns good tomorrow
afternoon ns they are this morning
that he would certainly be In the open-'
er then. Berger Is now in the best
of condition and is very anxious to
“kill'- a few men as they attempt to
cop that first bag.

In a Poorly Played Game Yesterday the Augusta Boys Lost to
Harbinson’s Men By the Score of 8 to 4, Thus Making
It Two Straight Defeats Out of the Series So Far—Au
gusta VS. Albany Here Tomorrow.
Columbia, S. C.—The Comers again
defeated the Augusta Combaeka yes
terday afternoon by the score of 8 to
4, thus making it two straight de
feats out of the series so far. This
game was poorly played but tt was
not without its sensations. Winohell's
home run with two men on bases and
Osteen's tfiple with the bases full were
features. Winchell was wild but ef
fective.
His "Umps" Lauzon and Smith of
the Augusta team got Into an argu
ment and the result was that Lauzon
fined him and politely chased him out
of the game.
Directly after the game of this af
ternoon the Combaeks will board a
train bound for their own playgrounds
where they will meet the Albanv Ba
bies In a series of games, beginning
tomorrow. After this series there’s
another to he played before hitting
the road again, being played with the
Savannah Indians. The Augusta club
has bad rather a disastrous trip on
the road and now that they're re
turning home tt Is expected that things
will be changed somewhat. Now that
the second half of the season is well
on Its way all of the clubs are ex
pected to settle down and play real
baseball from now on.
