T. J. M Kelly Killed Frank
Towner at Gibson, Ga. Party
Had Spent Day at Picnic in
This City.
Gibson, Ga.—T. J. M. Kelly, Jr., last
night shot and killed Frank Towner
The shooting occurred almost immed
iately after the arrival of the train
from Augusta, bringing home a party
who had spent the day at a picnic at
Lake View Park in Augusta. The
cause of the shooting was some trivial
affair between young Kelly and Car
son Towner, son of the dead man.
Kelly is the oldest son of Dr. T. J. M.
Kelly, for a long while a member of the
Georgia house of representatives, and
one of the best known men in this
section of the state. The Towner fam
ily is widely known and popular in
this section. Carson Towner, who is
about 22 years old, is married and
Kelly, who is about 25, is unumarried.
Young Towner and his wife were
were among the picnic party in Au
gusta today, as was Kelly.
It seins that the young men had been
drinking before leaving Augusta an( ],
on the train coming home, Kelly pour
ed some whiskey on Carson Towner.
The two came to blows but nothing
more was thought of the affair.
When the train reached here Frank
Towner, father of Carson Towner, ap
proached Kelly and the trouble was
renewed, when Kelly drew a revolver
and shot Frank Towner three times,
killing him instantly.

Postoffice Inspector Seigfried
Here From Atlanta. Men
Were Spotted By Capt. Jeff
Thomas on Train Coming to
Augusta.
Information was received in Augus
ta late yesterday afternoon of the
fate of Tom Daly and Joe Dove, two
alleged notoroius yeggs and postof
fice robbers, who have been in the
hands of the United States govern
ment, on a charge of entering and
robbing the potoffice at Duglass
' 'He, Ga., since last November, when
they were arrested in Augusta.
Potoffice Inspector S. E. Seigfreid,
who was one of the principal wit
nesses in the case, returned from At
lanta yesterday afternoon, where he
testified at the Dove and Daly trials
in the Federal court there. He state?
(hat after an able fight had been made
for the defendants by one of the best
attorneys in the state, the jury return
ed a verdict after a few hours of
guilty. Sentence in the Federal pen
itentiary at Atlanta of five years each
was passed on each.
The cases are of interest here from
the fact that the men were only ap
prehended as a result of the watchful
eye of Capt. Jeff Thomas, conductor
on the Central of Georgia railway,
over which road the men were one
night coming in to Augusta. The Au
gusta police were Informed and the
two were rounded up while in their
seats in the passenger car. It was
later learned that they had comit
ed daring robberies at Greens Cut, a
station on the Central of Georgia, and
it was here that their actions aroused
the suspicions of Capt Thomas.
