Johnston. S. C.—Johnston is doing
more advertising than ever in its
history. The great Chautauqua that
is to entertain July the 4th to llfh,
energized the whole town. The
streets fly Chautauqua pennants, the
autos bear advertising matter. It is
to he a “home-coming” week and
everybody ready to enter
tain. so don't be afraid to come.
Barhecue will be served each day and
a “rest room" will be provided for
the comfort of all visitors. The
Chautauqua venture i«r a great boost
for Johnston and the manner in which
the Chmber of Commerce and Editor
Stokes are handling affirs, it will
prove a great success in every par
ticular.

cold simmer until tender, and
serve cold either with or without cream.
LUNCHEON
Sour Milk Cake—Mix one cup of hrown
sugar, quarter of a cup of butter, one
•up of sour milk, two cupe of flour, a
teaspoon and a half of soda, half a tea
spoon each of cinnamon and cloves, and
on* cup of raisins. Bake In a moderate
oven.
DINNER
Pf|«d Egg-plant- Pare and cut the egg

an hour. Drain end fry In deep boiling

Beef Salad—Cut cold boiled beeta In
dice and serve on lettuce with a French

The attractive country home of
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Marsh was made
immensely attractive on Monday
evening when their young son, John
Fleming Marsh entertained for his
friends with anogram party. Miss
Pauline Sears winning the prize, a
box of Huyler’s. Amcng a cluster of
pines, nectar was freely dispensed
by Misses Long and Marsh of Tren
ton. Receiving with John Fleming,
were his brother, Theodore, Miss An
nie Crouch, and Mrs. J. W. Marsh.
After the game ice cream and cake
was served. There is always a charm
about a party in the country, espec
ially by tlihi home and this occasion
was no exception to the many hos
pitalities extended by the inmates of
this home.
