Savannah.—Columbus forged into the lead in the South Atlantic League during the week just past, breaking the tie with Albany, which existed at the end of the week before. The other teams maintained relatively the same positions, with the exception of Jack sonville and Macon, which were tied for seventh place. By winning one more game 'than Jacksonville, Macon forced the Florida team into the cel lar position. The standing of the league at pres ent, with the second half season one and a half weeks old, is a contrast to that at the finish of the first half sea son. which ended June 17. Savannah, which then led the league, now is tied with Augusta for fifth place; Charles ton, which was second, is tied with Columbia for third, and Jacksonville, which was third, now is eighth. The present leaders all finished the first half season well down in the stand ings. During the past week Columbus won 4 and lost 2 games; Jacksonville won 2 and lost 4. The other teams all broke even on games won and lost. One of the most interesting events of the week was the meeting here on Tuesday of the directors of the league The meeting was called to consider the protest of the Augusta club against the action of President Corish in bar ring Player Shaw of that team. The directors upheld the president in his action, but averted what threatened to become a serious situation for the lea'gue by granting Augusta permis sion to use Shaw during the remainder of the present season.
