Alvaro Obre pon, commander of the constitution alist forces, who after a three day*' battle on Wednesday, captured the important city of Guadalajara, Me, and took prisoners more than 5,000 federals, prepared today to re-organ ize hiß forces with a view to march ing on Ilapuapo, the junction on The Mexican Central Railroad connecting Mexico City with northern and west ern Mexico. Over 65-Mile Zone. General Obregon last night tie graphed P. S. Elias, constitutionalist representative here, that he routed the lederal army of 12,000 men de fending Guadalajara, under General Miel, in a Tierce battle extending over 8 zone of 65 miles. Genera! Obregon said the fereral loss was very heavy, but that his own casualties were small. The federals who escaped are being pursued by the constitutional ists and General Obregon was of the opinion that ,he w ould obtain several thousand reocults for ii's army in the captured city. An unusually pleasant meeting of Thursday Coterie was enjoyed yes terday afternoon with Mrs. Robert Burkhalter as hostess. The prize, a dainty piece of lingerie, was awarded to Miss Vivian Renkl, and Miss Pey ton, of Chattanooga, was given a box of pretty handkerchiefs as a souvenir of the afternoon. A petition for a temporary restrain ing order and a permanent injunction has been filed by attorneys for Mr. Henry M. North to prevent the Sec ond Thankful Baptist church, colored, from building a house of worship on tne premises of petitioner in Richmond Bath, a suburban summer resort about 20 miles from Augusta, where Mr. North owns between nine and ten acres of land on which Is situated his summer home. Augustfc was . visited by a good shower early last night. The precipi tation amounted to .22 of an inch and was indeed needed, for the deficiency In rainfall here since the first of the year Is approximately twelve Inches. On Recount of no rain, practically, there la little or no moisture In the ground, and one of the effects of the lack of moisture In the under-soll Is the shallow river at Augusta. This morning the official reading at the city wharf was 9.2 feet. On July 3rd. In the morning, the rlv er stood at 4.8 feet, the lowest It has been In a long tfme. It was lower, however at this time of the day tie cause of the water in the canals hav ing been drawn out In the night. The lowest evening reading Is 6 feet, taken on June 27th. CAMPAIGN PUBLICITY LAW. Washington,—The Rucker bill to amend and codify campaign publicity laws today passed the house. It. would extend existing requirements to sena tors who sre not elected by popular vote when the original law was passed and would limit amount* of money which national political committees may spend. ANOTHER DEATH, BUBGNIC PLAGUE Third Fatality Since Outbreak of the Disease at New Or leans Occurs Today. New Orleans. Another (loath from the bubonic plague was announced to day b ytlie üblic health service of ficers, making a total ot four cases and three deaths since the outbreak of the disease here on June 27. To day’s victim was Leon De Jean, a nego boy who was found ill at his home, 2227 St. Ann Street, on July sth, and removed to an isolated hos pital for observation. Dr. W. P. O'Reilly, city health o'' fleer, today issued an order to un dertakers that no burial permits should be issued until an investiga tion into the cause of death had been made by federal health officers. No tice was received at the headquarters of the public health service that all passengers arriving in the canal zone from New Orleans would lie detained in quarantine for seven days. Assistant Surgeon General V. V. Aiken has arrived from Washington and today was assigned to duty on outgoing quarantine. POST ENDORSES WARBURG STAND Will Not Appear Before Senate Committee Personally to Be Cross-examined. Washington. President Wilson will make no nomination for the fed eral reserve hoard in place of Paul M. Warburg, of New York, until the senate takes definite action on his name. .Ylr. Wilson expects thus to place the responsibility on the senate for leaving the board incomplete. That there war, no chance of the president changing this attitude was stated definitely today by officials in .his confidence. Mr. Warburg has fi nally decided that he will not appear personally before the banking com mittee to be cross-examined and the president is backing him in that stand. In answer to queries today whether Mr. Wilson was making ef forts to get Air. Warburg to appear before the committee officials at Ihe White House said that such attempt would bo useless. The nomination of Thomas I). Jones which the banking committee has voted to report adversely, is In a dis ferent, position. A fight for his con firmation may be conducted on a minority report. Fight on Jones. Washington.—Although the senate was not In session today the adminis tration effort to line up senators for confirmation of Jones was not re laxed. It became known today that Chairman Owen of the banking com mittee, now in Europe, had cabled to have bis vote cast in favor of Mr. Jones, that, however, would not have turned the ballot in his tavor. It was said that. Acting Chairman Hitchcock, who voted against Jones in the committee, will ask the senate to make public Mr. Jones’ testimony which relates to his connection with the so-called Harvester and zinc trusts Senator Hitchcock’s report on the committee action probably will be made Monday.
