DISGUSTED WITH ENGLISH
STAGE
:
v/' t ' «>%/' -4
JMBEk
London.—William A. Brady, the pro.
durer. Is disgusted with the English
stage this summer. He said today:
"In one of the most successful plays
now running here, 'Mr. Wu,' the con
ventional cup of tea Is brought on.
Just think of that. In many other
plays they would bring on some whis
key and fill up the actors, so that that
might get some semblando of liumsn
emotion.
"There Is sfrlghtful lack of good
acting on the English stage and a
frightful lack of originality In the
music halls. The fault Is not with
the actors hut with the dramatists,
for after all an actor cannot put life
where no life exists.
"The Mirations now are that the
English stage Is rttflrnlng lo melo
drama. Instead of the Drury l-ane
A._J5J£'ADY^'
theatre being practically Its only borne,
melodrama will tie produced before
long ut all (heir smaller theatres.”
