"The Mummy and the Humming; liird" was originally produced by Mir | ('has. Wyndham and played most sue-i ; eessfully for years by Mr. Paul Gil i more. CAILLAUX TRIAL ON 2OTH Orders Are Issued Forbidding Women to Attend Trial—ls Doubtful If They Will Be Carried Out. Paris The trial of Mmmr. CnlHaux will begin on July 20 and already all the possible accommodation ban been i pplied for. I believe the proeureur grneral has given orders that no ladles shall be admitted but the order is not worth the paper It Is written on. I have yet to know an occasion so thrlll- Ingly sensational when women w< re excluded. Ministers, high politicians and low politicians not to mention high officials have cause to know tii : power of the petticoat-government. It Is expected that the trial will last about six days and that we will no doubt have the usual dramatic scenes for which French courts are famous. There shall be five Judges to try the ease. M. Albanel presiding. Multre I.abort, the lawyer for the de fense, will, 1 hear, not resist the facts but confine his efforts to attenuating the guilt. It Is stated that there will be fifty witnesses for the prosecutiou and about twenty for the defense. I learn that M. Uiborl will summon a celebrated surgeon to say that Cal mette might have been saved if the bleeding bad been Stopped and no op eration bad been attempted. In any ease, there Is likely to be a battle roval between the masters of modern surgery. Meanwhile the probable save of the prisoner Is discussed. Tt Is said that, contrary to all precedent, the names of the Jury are already know n, and further, that the oplnts to he sub mitted to them will enable the first offender's act to be applied. They will he asked to state whethen the death of the victim was Intentional on the part of Mme. CalUatix or whether Cal mette simply had the had taste to die from wounds he received without be ing Invited or expected to do no by the avenger of her husband's honor - and Incidentally of her own.
