Cashed Two Bad Checks and Tried a Draft. Captain Grubbs of the Augusta police received a wire Tuesday, stating that Allen was wanted for forgery In Savan nah arid that he had probably fled to Augusta. The man and tho telegram reached here about the same tirrfe, and 1n thirty minutes Allen had been located by Mr. Reid in a near-beer saloon in the vlHnlty of the union depot. The man was not well dressed and was about 10 years of age. He stated that Cambridge, Mass . was his home. Tuesday morning according to Detec tive Beach two checks were presented to the t’ommercial Rank of Savannah for payment and both were turned down. The checks were presented by F. IL Quanta, grocer, and a restaurant keep er, for sls and $2, respectively. They had been cashed for Allen. The morn ing before. It Is claimed, Allen tried to cash a draft for S2OO on a certain bank In Cambridge, and It was refused on the grounds that he was not known by any of the officials of the Savannah Rank. Atlanta, Ga.—A smooth attempt to heata restaurant out of SIOO by play ing that he was poisoned was reveal ed In the police court when Harry Armstrong, a young Atlanta man, was hound over for cheating and swind ling Armstrong was unlucky In com ing to court for the evidence brought out also a Charge of adultery agaipst him. Armstrong, it Is alleged, vent with a young woman to the Peachtree Case, opposite the Piedmont for sup per. There they apparently became violently 111, and sent for a physician. Next day a lawyer appeared In the case and threatened suit and publicity unless his client was handed some thing. The case proprietor, frighten ed, gave up SIOO. After a while he learned that Armstrong had laughed over his own smoothness, and sent for the detectives. in the course of the evidence It was learned that the young woman In the case was not married to Arm strong, though they were registered together at a hotel.
