Steam is rapidly giving place to electricity as a source of power in the United States. Although steam had a start for centuries, already one-fourth the industrial power in use comes comes from the dynamo, and it is pre dicted that in a few years four-fifths of the work of the nation will derive energy from this source. It. is esti mated that there is 150,000,000-horse power at work daily in the United States. Of this 30,000,000 is animal, 75,000,000 steam and about 37,500,000 electric. The balance is divided be twee gas and water. Two-thirds of the steam power is employed in operating locomotives, and it is here that electricity is des tined to make its most sweeping con quest.
