ized and equipped.- The stocTc consists
of practically every line of merchan
dise and among Ihe larger depart
ments, it is worth while to mention
the following which are of special
note:
The furniture department, which
covers one entire floor, 14.850 square
feet of floor space, is probably the
largest stock in the state.
The piano department, which it is
claimed carries more different makes
of pianos, .which rank as the leading
instruments of the world, than any
other store in any city, regardless of
size. When it is considered that these
instruments include the Steinway,
Sohnter, Kranieh & Much, Helming, Au
to-Piano, and the Kohler Ac I'ampbell,
as well as several other lines, the asser
tion Is easily proven correct.
The modern grocery department, on
the first floor, is one of the busiest in
the house. The sanitary feature is
especially emphasized In this depart
ment and. everything is kept scrupu
lously clean, in the department is a
large up to date refrigerator of two
thousand pound ice capacity and large :
enough for 20 -men to stand inside.
Tlie men's clothing, furnishing and
shoe departments as well as the liny’s
clothing, occupy ••the two 'adjoining
stores infmoiuately west of the main
building and are connected with the 1
main building by an archway. These,
departments carry a large and well ’
selected line of goods and there are ;
thousands of men in Augusta and sur- j
rounding territory, who have purchas
ed their full arid spring clothing in
this department ever since they could j
remember,
The larger portion of the store is de
voted to women's wear and very hard
indeed to please is the woman, who
cannot find just what she wants in
the immense assortment to ho found
in every department.
The entire second floor is devoted to
women's ready to wear, shoes, mil- I
finery, corsets and underwear, while i
on the first floor are to be found
piece goods, hosiery, notions. Jewelry,
gloves, etc.- - •
J. 8. White A- Co., have built up an
immense business and have an en
viable reputation for honesty and
square dealing, and the business is one j
which any city might well he proud
to own. The modern department store
by the way is a most valuable asset to j
any community, particularly if as is
tlie case with White & Co., it is one
of a,large chain of stores, which are j
thus.in position to send their buyers
to every part of the world, securing
the choicest and best selected iner- ;
chandise for its patrons, which other- j
wise they would not be likely to get. \
Due to buying in large quantities in [
connection with associated stores, the
lowest prices are necessarily secured. '
the benefit of which reverts to tlie I
customers.
The house of ,1. H. W’hite & Co. has
been successful as.u. money maker, un
