THE AUGUSTA HERALD. AUGUSTA. GA.
“AUGUSTA DAY ” A REALITY
AT LAST; THIS AFTERNOON
If the Rain Does Not Fall As in the Past This Afternoon
Will Prove One of the Most Successful That the Base
ball Association Has Had. As Yet in the Matter of
Attendance.
The min again descended yesterday
• fterncxW) and washed out the second
tilt of the scheduled Tlger-Combark,
game, incidentally shoving it over to
today, "August day,” therefore causing
the great event to be more elaborate,
that la IT It doe* not again ruin today.
A double-header will he played, the
first game being called at 3 o'clock,
and the last, of cour*e at 5:15. A* the
prospects look there is to he a record
breaking crowd, nnd now that the
double Is to be played it is figured out
that the stands won't he uncomfort
ably Jammed for there's a grent deal
of fans that would like to see the
game and then leave the park by 5
o'clock, now for example, there's the
soldiers, these men all want to see the
game, hut also want to get back to
camp before roll call—* 30 o’clock.
No Trouble.
Now It seems that nature has pro
vided for the hoys, raining yesterday
afternoon, therefore pushing the game
over to this afternoon, thus giving the
soldier boys the looked for chHnce.
During this half of the season the
local team have found, no trouble In
the least to capture two games out of
the series w ith the Tigers. They have
copped the better part of the series In
this city and have also pulled off the
same stunt on the Tigers' own play
grounds, so, a* the "dope'’ stands,
this double header this afternoon Is
meant for Manager Broutherg’ outfit,
at least It Is hoped so. for they mean
| a great deal for the Cotnhacks, second
' place right away and then a good
| stack-up nitninst the Babies.
I The fast flying Sea Gulls have Just

been pulled out of the leading posi
tion In the percentage column by the
Albany Babies, and It's up to the
Comback* to put in their oar and keep
the Gulls moving down stream, for it
means second place. Just defeat the
Tigers, hoys, and the Babies will at
tend to the Gulls—then second place.
A FABLE REVISED.
The grasshopper knocked humbly at
the door of the ant's prosperous look
ing home.
“What do you want?” said the ant,
In a thin hard voice.
"A little food, and shelter from the
cold winds." replied the grasshopper.
"I can feel the Icy hand of winter
clutching at my throat."
"And may 1 ask,” said the unsym
pathetic ant, "how comes it that you
have wasted the summer?”
“The sun shone bright. Everything
was gay and I did naught but dance
from morn till night."
"Why didn't you tell me that be
fore?" said the ant, smiling her sweet
est smile. "Come right 1n and make
yourself to home. I've been too busy
to learn the new dances, and. If you'll
teach me, you can name your own
price.”
