SHERLOCKO THE MONK " The Adventure of the Passing Spotlight =* By QUS MAGER
“JONAH” CAST AWAY BY
THE COMBACKS YESTERDAY
Snyder Jumped Into the Game, With the Odds of a
“Pitcher’s Nature” Against Him, and With the Able
Support of His Team-Matss Won the Second Game
of the Columbus Series By a Score of 7 to 4.
A decidedly new spirit was suown
in yesterday aucinoon s gams, ana,

Fate" wa3 finally shaken off at the
closing of the fourth inning, the
locals d,ieated the visitors by the
score of 7 to 4.
Hanker was scheduled to pitch this
game, but sad to say, when the time
came he was too ill to do so. Snyder,
who had had but one day's rest, and
has pitched to the batsmen for ■ roh
ably an hour before the gams, should
have been "all-in” hut —(Winchell
was to pitch in the double-header to
day) when Manager Brouthers put the
"state of affairs” before him, Snyder
simply said: “I'm feeling fine, let me
win.” The result was that he was
used, and won his game with the able
support of his teammates.
Sluoging Fest-
The Columbus batsmen were cen
tainly slugging some, and hitting
th«m hard as well. A little comment
w-s rassert on a curtain t irow uia
"Babe” made to first, and also on
the lidding of the ball. Now Brouth
efs has won a pennant before, and his
business is playing ball —the regular
first baseman was behind the bat, and
Pitcher Stone on first —What more
ooudl ho expected. "Stouev was not
tirst baseman, therefore could not be
expected to have the confidence in
him that tney have in Berger—yet
Brouthers is blamed for not taking
any chances.
Laurence Derricked.
Tha locals were certainly slugging
for this game, and the result was that
was derricked iu favor of
Redding, but. however, it made no
difference, five more runs were piled
up after "Red” was nailed in the box.
The bovs all realize the important
of winning now, knowing only too
well that every game lost counts
against them and the general feeling
amongst the crowd is to go in to win,
