LOSING STREAK BROKEN
AT CROWDERITES’ EXPENSE
The Local Outfit Played the 6 ame Yesterday Afternoon With
Unusual Vigor, the Result B eing That Jacksonville Was
Shut-Out to th£ Tune of 7 to 0---Good Article of Ball
Shown.
The local outfit played the game
yesterday afternoon with unusual vig
or, the net result being that the Jack
sonville Crowlerltes were shutout to
the tune of 7 to 0. Manager ‘'Babe"
Brouthers’ crew was on the job from
the starting of the game until the end,
setting a lead in the first inning of
three runs, adding another in the sixth
and piling up three more in the eighth
The visitors also put up a good article
of ball, in fact 'a remarkable game,
but the locals’ time had come and
therefore their losing streak was
broken.
The following is a rehearsal of the
first inning, as the home boys scored
three runs off of one hit, with the aid
of two errors on the part of the Crowd
erites;
First Inning,
Burgess sauntered to first. Smith
bunted towards first; Melchoir fumbled
and Smith copped first. Shaw tried
tile same stunt but didn't succeed.
Berger bounded to third. In an effort
to "k'lTt” Burgess, who was coming
'home, the visiting third baseman threw
to the catcher, but, however, he failed,
for the sphere w-as dropped and inci
dentally Burgess scored. Clark sin
gled to right scoring Smith (Clark
went to second on a passed ball).
Barker bit through Golden's legs
scoring Berger, but, however, the sen
sational pick-up by Callahan was the
cause of the local twirler dying on
first. Brouthers hit to second and
was thrown out at first.
Eighth Inning.
Augusta's other big inning was in
tile eighth. This little act started off
the same as the former "big one."
Here's the fun:
Burgess took a walk. Smith bunted
and beat it out. Shaw did the same
and again failed. Berger hit to center
scoring both Burgess and Smith. Clark
was given first. Barker grounded to
