TUESDAY, AUGUST 11. Society MRS. JORDAN AND MISS CLARK SAFE IN ROME. A cable received today by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark from Venice an nounced that Mr. and Mrs. John Wll .bur of Philadelphia. Mrs. Isabelle Jor dan and Miss Isabelle Clark were en route to Rome and that letters be sent there. Just what their future plans are is not known, but when they left It was their intention to be gone until the middle of September. ' The earliej- part of their stay has been In southWn Italy. MR. PINCKNEY BELLINGER ENTERTAINING HOUSE PARTY. A number of young people are en joying a jolly house party at Mrs. IV. J. Faulkner’s, the host of which Is her brother, Mr. R. Pinckney Bellen ger, of Bamberg, S. C.. who has only recently graduated from the Univer sity of Columbia. His guests are Miss Marguerite Reese of Kershaw. S. C„ Miss Cherrie Harvle of Holly Hill. The crowd is congenial and there is something doing every minute of the day and late into the night as well. This evening they will he among the guests at the dance given by the Lakeside Boat Club to the officers at. A bautiful afternoon party was giv en yesterday by little Min Thelma Sullivan, the pretty little daughter of Mrs. Minnie L. Sullivan, in celebration of her eleventh birthday. Gaines wero enjoyed after which the merry young guests were served refreshments. The dining room was adorned with white and pink flowers, especiall pretty being the table with its pink and white flowers and favors with its beautiful cake iced in pink and having eleven gleaming pink candles candles. The young hostess was the recipient of many pretty gifts taken to her by her young friends among whom were Misses Sarah Evans, of Grovetown, Elizabeth Donnelly, Orgar Hargrove. Countless friends throughout the city will regret to learn of the very serious illness of Mrs. James R. Ran dall at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Adams. DANCE FOR OFFICERS THIS EVENING. The dance that will be given by the Lakeside Boat Club in honor of the officers at Camp Wheeler will he one of the most delightful in the history of the boat club. Balk’s orchestra will be in attendance. MARRIAGE OF MRS. VAN PELT AND MR. CHESTER VICKERY. The stay at Brevard for the past sev eral weeks of Mrs. George R. Lombard and Mrs. Nomma Van Pelt resulted in the culmination of a charming little, romance when Mrs. Van Pelt and Mr. Vickery weve quietly married just before Mrs. Lombard’s leaving for home yes terday. Mr. Viekcry is a Boston man but is at present located In Washington. D. 0.. where he is connected with one of the large business houses. He and Mrs. Van Pelt were friends of several months, lie having met he*r first at one of the re sorts and later joining them at Brevard, where he persuaded Mrs. Van Pelt to be married at once, the young couple going over to Hendersonville, with the knowl edged and consent of Mrs. Lombard, where the ceremony was performed and then returning to Rrevard and announc ing It to their friends. They will make their home on McKinley street, Chevey Chase, Washington. D. C. Mrs. Vickry Is an exceptionally hand some young woman, of n deliciously re freshing blonde type, and has countless friends he*e in her old home who while regretting to lose her. extended to Mr. Viekerv cordial congratulations, and to them both, felicitations numerous and sincere. —Miss Mary Louise Connelly has gone to Columbia, S. Georgia. —Mr. and Mrs. Hamp Cates left Monday to visit relatives in Venus and Ballinger, Texas. Mr. Frank By num went with them. —The many little friends of Miss Margaret Van Dyke will regret to learn of her continued illness. She has been ill since February. —Mr. Frank Morgan’s friends are delighted to see him out after his re cent illness. Miss Nell Doris will leave later in the month for a visit with Atlanta friends. —Miss Lillian Van Dyke and Miss Lillian Hatcher leave tomorrow for Waynesville where they will join Mrs. J. B. Vaughn and Miss Bessie Flynn for a couple of weeks. —Friends of Mrs. Adolph Lesser are most sympathetic with her on account of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Moses, being in Berlin where they went a few months ago to make their home. Mrs. Lesser has heard nothing since the beginning of hostilities in Europe. —Mrs. Jacob Phlnizy, who is at White Sulphur Springs, Va., was among the patronesses at a recent beautiful ball given there at which Vice President bnd Mrs. Marshall were among the distinguished guests. Mr. and Mrs J. A. McClain and Miss Annie McClain leave Friday for a two weeks’ stay on Tybee. —Mr. and Mrs. William M. Dunbar and their two attractive children, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Otis, are now w'ith relatives in Ellen ton, S. C. They have closed Hotel Dunbar in Johnston and will make their home elsewhere. —Mrs. Jones Gardner, who has been in Brevard for the past several weeks, after visiting the Misses Dempsey In Ar undelle county, Maryland, will g'> up to Asheville about the twentieth, where she will be Joined by Miss Mar garet Seward. - Mrs. K. They will be absent for a week. —Mins Helen Reman has been enjoying n delightful summer while the guests of Northern friends. Just after being grad uated from the Tubman she left for Rochester. Pa., where she has been the guest of Miss Rmnvi Frv. who by the way, spent one or two winters here and attended the Tubman. While with Miss Fry they went to Lake Chautauqua where the Frys have n beautiful sum mer home, and spent a week there Pitts burg and other cities were visited and countless motor trips erloyed through the beautiful country.
