THE HOBBY HE KING GEORGE Takes the Keenest Interest in Development of Photography. Has Kinematograph. London. -Though not an expert photographer himself, King George lias always taken the keenest Inter cut In the progress and development of the art and has given his children < very encouragement to practice It to tu .‘ir hearts content. It is not gen erally known that among the equip ment of the Royal household is a Kinematograph projector and it is not an uncommon tnlng to find a Ki nema show figuring as part of the Royal entertainments specially in the winter months. Copies of practically every film of the King's tour either at home or abroad ilnd their way to Windsor < untie or Buckingham Palace and are added to tue ever-growing collection wnu h was started during tne reign ot King Bdward. O, still photographs there is a veritable art gallery at Windsor Cas -11- and quite recently King George gave orders that a collection should be formed of portraits of all the lead ing Boldlers and sailors so his reign. A start has bee* made In the room allloted for the purpose with the paintings of Field Marshall Lord Rob erts and Field Marshall Lord Kitch ener, both close personal friends of the king and in the next week or two the walls will further be adorned by the pictures of Admiral of the Fleet. Lord Fisher and Admiral Lord Charles lleresford. Paintings of other celebrated officials will be added from time to time and Is cases where these are not available, the king has given orders for them to be obtained at his expense. Men of lesser note will he specially photo graphed for the Windsor gallery and in the course of a year or so the new gallery will undoubtedly he one of the most Interesting of Windsor Castles manifold attractions. BILLBOARDS TEIToF DANGERS OF THE FLY Copenhagen. On the billboards of Copenhagen appear* the sign, “The moat dangerous of all animals Is not the lion, the tiger or the reptile but— the fly.” This is the means Herr Kalrk uses In waging a campaign against flies. Herr Falck is the bitterest enemy the fly has in Scandinavia, and his one ambition is to see a flyless Den mark. To preach his new crusade, he has organized in Copenhagen the first complete fly exhibition in the world. It contains every kind of weapon yet invented for trapping, poisoning or smashing flies. Most of these contri vances come from the United States. An old superstition that Herr Falck hopes to rid the people of Is that a Christmas fly brings good luck. A Christmas fly, according to Herr Falck, is the* potential mother of 195,- 312.500,000 descendants in the course of the summer season. THE AUGUSTA HERALD, AUGUSTA, GA. COWING HOC OF SCULL CHAMP Giant Italian Who Ran Away With Diamond Sculls in Hen ley Regatta to Be a Profes sional London.—Giuseppe SinlKa#lla. the giant Italian who ran away with the Diamond sculls In the Henley regat ta this year. Is about to become a pro fessional. He does this because he seeks fresh fields to conquer and has proved himself far ahead of any ama teur. Those who saw him on the Thames believe he will out-distabce the best professional. He is six feet five Inch es tall, weighs In condition 203 pounds and Is a natural oarsman. He Is 23 years old. Sintgaglia has challenged Ernest Barry, the professional champion, with TO SAVE EYES Is the Object of This Free Pre scription—Try It if Your Eyes Give You Trouble. Thousands of people suffer from eye troubles, bemuse they do not know what to do. They know some good home rem edy for every other minor ailment, but none for their eye troubles. They neg lect their eyes, because 'he trouble is not sufficient to drive them to an eye specialist, who would, any way, charge them a heavy fee. As a last resort they go to an optician or to the five and ten cent store, and often-tlmee get glasses that they do not need, or which, after being used two or three months, do their eyes more Injury than good. Here is a simile prescription that every one should use: 5 grains Optona. (1 Tablet) * 3 ounces Water. Vee three or four times a day to baths the eves. This prescription keeps the eyes clean and quickly overcomes In flammation and Irritation. Weak, wat ery, work-stramed eyes, granular lids and other similar troubles are greatly benefited and often-tlmes cured by Its use. Many who wear glasses have dis carded them after using It for a few weeks. It Is good for the eyes, and will not njure tna most sensitive eyes of an Infant or the aged. Any druggist can fill this preser ptlon promptly. Try it It. and know for ones what real ays comfort la ■COMPLETE hOUSEFURNISHERSI a view of demonstrating to the ath letic world that he is the greatest sculler of the day. The Italian wants the race rowed on Lake Como, Italy, where he has done his train. Barry Insists that it he rowed on the Thames and so has refused Sinigaglia's offer of J 1.500 to row In Italy. Being cham pion Barry maintains he has the right to name the place for thq race. Marvellous. The Italian’s showing on the Thames was little short of marvellous. His steering was erratic, but he overcame this handicap, which would have lost moßt scullers the races at Henley. He ran into log booms, took a zig-zag course and still defeated his opponents by lengths. From this it can be seen how superior he was to the Henley field. He rowed so fast that one of hts rivals In the effort to keep up with him fell out of his shell exhausted while another fainted dead away. At Henley he met seasoned oars men who in ordinary years would have won the Diamond sculls with distinction. He reached the course without having had any races to try his metal, yet came home winner ev ery time. What the natural oarsmen will do against professionals Is no problem. Hanlon of Toronto, back in the late 70’s was a natural oarsman; an ama teur untried until he burst suddenly on the world of professional two-oar men and easily vanquished them. He was, In his time, unbeatable. He ar rived finally at the point where it was no longer possible for him to get a race with any man in the world. Yet Hanlon was at the outset of his career an amateur, developed without the competition now considered necessary to make a champion In -ji ysport. FORETELLS ISTHMUS OF PANAMA WILL WITNESS A SEA-LEVEL 'CANAL Psnsm*.—After having spent the better part of a week in an extended examination of the Panama Canal, Philip Buana-Varilla. ex-chief engi neer of the defunct New French Pan ama Canal Company, is still of the opinion that ultimately the Isthmus of Panama will witness the construc tion of a sea-level canal. He declares that at the end of the first 20 years of operation of the present lock canal It will be found necessary to recon struct that waterway In order to take care of the increased traffic that will use It. Bunau-Varllla Is emphatic In his statement that within 20 years the present Panama Canal will have reached the limit of Its earning ca pacity. 50.000.000 tons annually, and that then It will be found that only a ANNUAL SUMMER REDUCTION SALE Trunks. The former canal en gineer makes it plain, however that he does not mean to criticise the con struction of the present lock canal, but maintains that this is merely the sec ondary period in the construction of a waterway across the isthmus. Bnnau-Varilla has spent most of his time since his arrival on the isthmus in making voyages of insepetion along the canal. In many of his trips he was the guest of Col. George W.
