The set-in-sleeve Is now considered hh fashionable as the sleeve that is cut lii one with the bodice. The somber costume may be bright ened# by the parasol. It comes In vivid greens and yellows. . The vogue for capes is steadily growing and a great deal of attention la being paid to the linings. Velvet hats are undoubtedly popu lar. They are fashioned of black, brown and mouse gray. Very deep blue with a lavender cast as well as navy blue and a new rich shade of peacock blue will be in favor. Many street frocks are made of sheer material dividing four heavy linens, piques and colon fabrics. Or gandie, tulle and batiste head the list. Women are perhaps wearing a bone or two more in their corsets, but there is no tighter lacing and the trend of the moment is to appear more or less corset less Kur fashions are already decided about. Small neckpieces of fox, mar ten and lynx, aim* fur fancies in ermine and white coney are to be in great demand Broad stolea of seal or muskrat are to he worn. The sash must be of supple mate rial. drawn about the wnlst In soft folds and tied in a bow In the hack. The ends may be drawn low over the hipa. allowing the bow to fall loosely over the back of the sktrt. t'repes. tissues and hroche silks are atl favored by the modish bride for her wedding frock. Blue cloth is \ery popular for the aoing-away gown. ANOTHER VICTORY FOR NAPOLEON Napoleon, though dead theae nine ty-three years, has scored another triumph. It I* a victory in Germany and over the Germans, too Thev have adopted one of bts mtMhods of warfares—ln fact, the prlncipai method with which he established the greatest throne of modem times. The German army chiefs have turn ed to Krem h methods taklng*the ad vice given by Von Moltke many years ago to study the campaign of Napo leon, nnd are planning a sweeping re organization of their artillery service. With cannon Napoleon Bonaparte quelled the Parisian uprising and made the most conspicuous of his early bids for fame. With cannon he rescued Toulon from the British. With cannon he taught the nations of the world a new science of war, winning battle after battle through his master ly handling of the powerful artillery. And, alas, it was the cannon that con tributed largely to hla greatest and final defeat. Unable to drag them speedily enough over the mud-deep approaches to Waterloo, he was late in beginning the battle, which, if started three or four hours sooner, would have undoubtedly resulted in a victory for the' French fcolors. The German war office has ordered a translation to be prepared of “Pre ceptors et Judgments de Napoleon,” collected and classified by Lieutenant Colonel Earnest Picard of the French army. It is announced that the prin ciples propounded in that hook will be adopted, ns far as is practicable, by the Gorman army. This means a striking vindication of the French artillery principle, which was so suc cessfully demonstrated In the Balkan wars, and is also a victory for Na poleon, the influence of whose mag nificent intellect, it seems, will be felt throughout the ages. MODERN HEROES. Modern heroes, ts properly celebrat ed in prose and poetry, would soon supplant Horatlus. William Tell. Win keiretd, Curtins Roland and the other valorous celebrities of ancient and medie* nl tim# j s. 0 Take, for instance. Roland Garros, the aviator, who sacrificed his life the •ther »tay by running at full tilt with his aeroplane into a German dirigible. This much about it has seeped through the English censorship: Roland Garros, the French flyer. 1 sighted a German dirigible on the French side of the border line near Nancy. The French pilot dro\e his machine straight at the dirigible which was manned hy twenty-five soldiers, and dashed against the gas hag. The dirigi ble whs wrecked and all aboard as well as Garros were dashed to death It is believed that the Frenchman deliberately sacrific ed himself to deal destruction to the Germans The only possible regret about this is that It may not be true. It has all the earmarks of fiction, and yet if Garros did give his life In the manner described he Is entitled to a niche in the hall of fame Macon Telegraph. VICKERY-VAN PELT. ANNOUNCEMENT CARDS.
