SUNDAY, AUGUST 16 BRILLIANT CONGRESSMAN HAS FOUGHT PARTY BATTLES IN THE STATE AND OUT OF IT (Continued from preceding page) born citizen of Georgia. At some time I have always eoncended to every friend I had, to every citizen of Geor gia, the same right to do his own thinking and his own voting that I have claimed and exercised for my self I have always done this, and still do so, and for that reason I have thousands of friends in Georgia, many of them my ardent supporters in this contest, who do not agree with me on this and possibly on other questions. Whatever else may be said, I do not search for fences to straddle. I do not play both ends against the middle. I do not say I am for Smith when with Smith men and for Brown when I am with Brown men. I am not hanging to Woodrow Wilson with one hand and to Hearst with the other. I have not lain down first on my state, second on my own crowd, then on my own town. I have not run away from joint debate, or anything else. Slaton Opposed to Wilson. Mr. Slaton, whose opposition to Woodrow Wilson is well known, has assailed me as being untrue to this administration, both as to parcels post and the currency bill. This charge in somewhat milder form, has been echoed from the Felder camp. Let me ask you to take the answer from the man who ought to know better than either Mr. Slaton or Mr. Felder—from Woodrow Wilson himself. Without my knowledge or request, direct or in direct. Mr. Wilson recently wrote the following lettec: "The White House. Washington. August 3rd, 1914. "To the Editor of The Press: "I am very glad to answer your let ter of July 20th. Mr. Hardwick has been an ardent and faithful friend of the administration from the outset, and I should be very sorry to heat of anything being said against him that ■would create a different Impression. He has my admiration and confi dence. Sincerely yours, (Signed) WOODROW WILSON.” Mr. Slaton insists that I have been saying unkind things about him and his family affairs and family mat ters. He is entirely mistaken. Neither I nor my management have anything on earth to do with the controversy tween himself and Judge Morris. I Dr. Hardman Will Carry Over One Hundred Counties Reports From All Sec tions Indicate His Nomination For Governor Atlanta, Ga., August 15th (Special). —l, Bnorts from every section of the sta’.l received at the Hardman Cam paign 'headquarters lin the Kimball House tonight indicate that Dr. L. G. Hardman will carry over one hundred bounties for Governor, at the coming democratic primary on Wednesday. Dr. Hardman, following a thorough canvass of the state, shares the be lief of his friends that he is to be the winner on the first ballot of the com ing state convention. It is not believed that even a com bination of the Harris and Anderson forces will be sufficient to defeat the will of the people in the nomination of Dr. Hardman at that time. Thousands of letters have been re ceived In securing the canvass men tioned. and extracts from some of them showing the basis for the claims made above are as follows: Mr. J. P. Carter, Naylor, Ga. —“Dr. Hardman will easily carry Lowndes county.” Mr. A. H Thurman, Fitzgerald, Ga. —"Ben Hill county will be found in the Hardman column. Irwin and Wil cox will go the same way.” Dr. A. C. Moreland, Forsyth, Ga. — "If we don’t carry Monroe for Dr. Hardman I am badly mistaken." Mr. J. H. McGee, Lawrencevllle, Ga. —"Three weeks ago this county would have gone for Harris. Now there Isn’t any doubt Gwinnett will go for Dr. Hardman.” Mr. Thomas W. Crawford, Lexing ton, Ga-—" There will be no trouble about Dr. Hardman carrying Ogle thorpe county." Mr. Thad Adams, Moultrie, Ga.— “All indications point to Dr. Hard man carrying the majority of the counties in the western part of the second district. Colquitt, Mitchell, Thomas and Grady all are strong for Hardman. Berrien county also is for Hardman. He is gaing strength ev ery day.” Mr. H. E. McAuliffe, Mllledgevllli, Ga.—" The supporters of Dr. Hardman here believe he will get a majority over both of his opponents in Baldwin Sentiment is growing stronger in his favor every day.” Mr. J. E. Tinley, Hampton, Ga.—" Dr. Hardman has the fight whipped in Henry county." Mr. J. R. Stapleton, Preston, Ga.— "Dr Hardman will win out In Web ster.” Mr. R. J. Dickson. Richland, Ga.— "The chances are good for Dr. Hard man to carry Stewart county by a safe majority.” Mr. N. J. Boswell, Mansfield, Ga.— Dr. Hardman by a safe majority." Mr. George M. Dame, Homerville, Ga.—“ Clinch Is safely In the Hard man column.” Mr. O. L. B. Lester, Hiram, Ga.— "Paulding county can be safely oounted In the Hardman column." Mr. J. R. Kelley, Cordele, Ga. — "Watch Dr. Hardman carry Crisp, Dooly, Wilcox. Worth, Turner, Sump ter. Irwin and many other South Geor gia counties Harris men coming over conceding Hardman's election." Dr., G. Y. Moore, Cuthbert. Ga.— "Dr Hardman will carry Randolph by a very safe margin." Mr. J. Kelly Simmons, Mcßae, Ga "If we don’t carry Telfair for Dr Hardman I am badly mistaken." Dr. Henry R. Slack, laGrange, Ga. —"Dr. Hardman la gaining strength In Troup county every day.” Dr E. W. Childs, Omaha, Ga.—“l confidently believe you may expect Stewart to be In the Hardeman col umn on the 19th.” Mr J. N. Davies, Blue Ridge. Ga.— have made no reference whatever to the matter in any way. I have simply said about Mr. Slaton what everybody knows and his friends concede, that without the support of the enormous fortune that is behind him there would be nothing whatever to him or his campaign. Mr. Slaton has employed a campaign manager who came to us, advertised, as "Just from Tammany and Its campaigns." Does Mr. Slaton propose to try Tammany methods on eGorgia democrats? Is that what it means? Does he believe that Georgia democracy Is for sale and that a new Lorrimer may hail from Georgia? I trust not. I warn him now, It Is a dangerous game that he Is reported to be playing. After making so many miserable insinuations that I had im proper relations, past or present, with the express companies or some mys terious trust, when called down hard by me, Mr. Slaton finally, in his last card, says he has "Indulged in no in nuendo," and on yesterday permits his manager to publish to all the world the fact that I am poor, paying only $ll.OO in taxes to the state. Is Poverty a Disqualification? Is poverty a disqualification? Are only the rich, by marriage, eligible? If so. I guess he will have to be elect ed. for the balance of us are poor. But when he parades my poverty, after the twelve years of congressional service, he gives answer, full and complete, lo his own vile insiuations of an earlier date. I only hope that rich or poor, he will keep his hands as clean as mine. Fellow democrats or Georgia. T rest my cause. To your keeping and into your hands I commit it. I have fought the battles of our party, In Georgia and out of it, all my life. I live In south Georgia, which Is entitled to one of these places. T am poor but clean. T have the advantage of all my competitors in training, experience, equipment, and preparation tor this work. I have never trimmed mv sails to catch the passing breeze Whatever wounds my party's foes and my own have inflicted on me are on my breast received, as I faced them, and not on my back, received as I ran awav from them. I am plain-spoken and hard working. If elected I shall do my best to make Georgia and the country a worthy senator. If honored with your support I shall be grateful to you far beyond my poor powers of expression. THOMAS W. HARDWICK. "Dr. Hardeman will carry Fannin county beyond a doubt.” Mr. L. A. Dean, Rome, Ga.—"l feel sure Floyd county will go for Dr. Hardman." Mr. M. M. Spnks, Greensboro, Ga.— "Dr. Hardman will carry Green coun ty." Mr. J. N. Hackney, Rlue Ridge, Ga. —"Don’t have any worres or fears about Fannin county. She is in the Hardman column. We are practically all for the farmer canddate for gov ernor.” Mr. W. V. Lockhart, Maysvllle, Ga. —"Banks county will go for Dr. Hard man all right.” Mr. W. I. Hobbs, Gainesville, Ga.— “Dr. Hardman is going to carry Hal county.” Mr. J. Reports from Brooks and Berrien in QUICKLY ENDS THE WORST BACKACHE Makes Kidney Troubles, Blad der Disorders, and Rheu matic Pains Vanish. It is no lonper necessary for any one to suffer with baekachlng, kidney trouble, have disagreeable bladder and uTinary disorders to contend with, or be tortured with rheumatism, stiff joints, and its heart-wrenching pains, for the new dis covery, Croxone, quickly and surely re lieves all such trobules. Croxone is the most wonderful remedy yet devised for ridding the stystem of uric acid and driving out all the pois onous impurities which cause such trou bles. It is entirely different from all other remedies. It is not like anything else ever used for the purpose. It acts on the principle of cleaning out the poisons and removing the cause. It soaks right in through the walls, membranes and linings, like water in a sponge, neutralizes, dissolves and makes the kidneys sift out and filter away, all the uric acid and poisons from the blood, and leaves the kidneys arid uri nary organs clean, strong, healthy, and well. It matters not how long you have suf fered, how old you are, or what you have used, the very principle of Croxone is such, that it is practically impossible to take it into the human system without results. There is nothing else on earth Like it. It starts to work the minute you take it and relieves you the first time you use it If you suffer with paJns in your back, and sides, or have any signs of kidney, bladder troubles, or rheumatism, such as puffy swellings under the eyes or in the feet and ankles, if you are nervous, tired, and run down, or bothered with urinary disorders, Croxone will quickly relieve you of your misery. You can secure an original package of Croxone at trifling cost from any first class drug gist. All druggists are authorized to personally return the purchase price if it fails in a single case. Col. J. W. Austin, Atlanta, Ga.--”I have had expressions from all classes of our citizens from every ward in the city, and from tne county pre cincts, which indicate that Dr. Hard man will carry Fulton county by a handsome majority. I have been grat ified to note the spontaneity of the Hardman sentiment in Atlanta. The strong personality of the man In spires enthusiasm and there has been a vast deal of quiet but effective campaigning done here by his friends. If the normal vote of the party Is polled next Wednesday Fulton will be in the Hardman column. Opposition to Hardman has practi cally ceased In a number of coun ties, and these are conceded to him by overwhelming majorities. In other counties where the race has been close, It is now admitted that the Hardman forces have the edge and will carry the county by a safe ma jority. As he continues his dignified cam paign and his platform and person become better known, Dr. Hardman is winning votes both from the An derson and Harris camps. Notwithstanding the fact that every confidence is expressed at his head quarters os to the ultimate results, the campaign will be prosecuted with vigor up until the eve of the primary, and Dr. Hardman, himself, will con tinue to speak several times each day on Monday and Tuesday. The slogan adopted by the Hard man workers at the beginning seems destined to become a fact: “Hardman on the first ballot.” FORMER MINISTER BRYCE’S DAUGHTER WEDS PINCHOT New York. —Mlhs Cornelia E.
