Savannah.—With Smallwood In con sistent form the Indians blanked the Augusta Combacks yesterday after noon by a score of 4 to 0, on a muddy field. The heavy field prevented the scheduled double-header from being played. Manager Brouthers was out of the game, Cepterfielder Smith tak ing his place on the third sack. Stone replaced Smith in center. Smlthey's absence in center hurt the Augustans’ chances and greatly aided the locals in running up the score. Stone, being a twirler, could not get them "where they were not.” Zimmerman and Smith featured with the stick for the locals. Although the Combacks were blank ed the game was snappy and inter esting from the beginning until the end. Up until the fifth innlg it look ed as If one of those 14-inning games was on the schedule. However, Sa vannah started to scoring in the sixth, putting a runner over the scoring sta tion in each inning to follow. Three Chances. Manager Brouthers' crew had three good chances to score, starting with the first inning, when Burgess, who leads the visitors in the batting ilne, received a free ticket, and then cop ped second on Shaw’s infield hit to short. By the way, Smith fanned Just previous to Shaw coming to bat. In the third inning Snyder singled to left, went to second on Burgess' sacrifice, anchored there while Smith again sawed out, and Shaw was thrown out at first by short. The visitors made a grand attempt at a rally In the ninth. However, they failed. Here's the attempt: Clark led off In this round by being awarded the first station, taking sec ond on Barker’s single to left. Stone swung at three good ones and took the bench. Kelly was walked, filling the bases. Then Snyder broke it up by hitting to the local slabman, who threw to the receiver, who in his turn threw to first, therefore making a double play and Incidentally ahutting the visitors out by the score of 4 to 0.
