Columbia, S. C.—Green was hit hard
and, with poor support, Charleston
had little difficulty in defeating Co
lumbia yesterday, 8 to 3. Eldridge
pitched well until the ninth. The hit
ting of Mackert, Eberts, Marshall and
Betzel featured. Mild excitement was
created during the game when Um
pire Lauzon ordered a spectator re
moved from the stands. Nearby fans
said the man's language was not
abusive and fifty or a hundred men
w r ent out and brought the spectator
back. The crowd was incensed by a
decision that gave the visitors their
second run.

the eontest early enough to play the
scheduled double-header. Both of the
clubs batted hard.
Outfielder Smith, who held down
tlie third station in the first game
with the locals, was placed in the
pitcher's box yesterday, although nine
hits were registered against him, and
he was unable to fan a single man the
game was registered in the win col
umn of the visitors. Smith’s pitching
was superb. The locals threatened to
wdn the game after all when they
made a magnificent attempt at a rally
in the ninth inning.
Winston hit to Smith, who was a
little slow in fielding the pill, there
tore allowing him to land safe on the
first station. Then Catcher Smith
faced Pitcher Smith and slammed the
sphere to loft, for a single. Winston,
who started running on the w’ind-up
managed to got on the third sack.
Crowell sacrificed him in. Then Out
