WHAT THE LEGISLATURE
DID AND DID NOT DO
The legislature that has just passed
into history adopted a child labor law,
almost emasculated by eleventh hour
timendments, but a good law for all
that.
It did not restrict the amount of
alcohol In beer »old in this prohibition
state, nor make the maintenance of a
locker club a crime. Neither did It
adopt a very reasonable bill offered
restricting the shipment of blind tiger
supplies Into this state.
It might have done all that but for
the fine Italian hand and the mqgic
Infleunce of the big liquor interests
that, through the speaker, secured a
"legal vulture” plague, which law,
operating with the rules committee,
effectually dominated and tyrannixed
a large prohibition majority In the
house of representatives.
It created four new counties.
Marrow, with Winder as Its capital.
Bacon, with Alma as Us capital.
Candler, with Matter as Its capital.
Evans, with Claxton as Its capital.
But it did not rulse the age of con
sent from ten years, leaving Georgia,
of all the states in the union, standing
along with the negro republic, Hivyti,
on that Important question.
It did abolish the office of quarter
master general.
But It did not pas* any law for the
protection of oyster beds.
It did not pass the kindergarten bill,
the Intermediate sentence bill, nor the
slaughter house inspection bill.
It provided for the protection of
Insurance companies, against the
"legal vulture" plague, which law will
be extended to protect other corpo
rations. we trust, by the very next
legislature.
