The contract of the W. H. Fisseli

however, that it is expected to finish
tho building before that tlmo.
Mr. Lepper occupies practically the
same position on the work here that
Mr. J. W. Hlllsinger does for the con
tractors. He arrived here about a
week ago from Washington, D. C., as
formerly stated He came to Augusta
off one of the largest and finest gov
ernment buildings in tho country—-the
new Bureau of Engraving and Print

Jim Nevin Says His Hat is Off
To Hon. Thomas W. Hardwick
He is a Great "Tom-Billie,” Says Georgian’s Political Ex
pert, Who Praises Congressman For Great Race He Made
For the Senate
James B. Nevin, one of Georgia’s
best known political writers, pays the
very highest compliment to Congress
man Thomas W. Hardwick, who made
such a spectacular race for the United
States senate and who stands an ex
cellent chance of being nominated by
the state convention which will meet
at Macon September first, Mr. Hard
wick’s great race Is a source of pride to
thousands* of loyal friends and sup
porters throughout the tenth district
and all over the state.
Mr. Nevin says In the Georgian:
‘‘ln all likelihood it will be many
moons before it will be disputed
around and about these diggin's that
Thomas W. Hardwick is st/me cam
paigner!
"However much one may have dif
fered with the Congressman as to cer
tain aspects of the late unpleasant
ness, it would be ungruclotis anil un
fair not to state that Mr. Hardwick
made a truly magnificent campaign
for the short term in the Senate, and
that not only has ho augmentedthe re
gard and high opinion of his friends,
hut has added many new admirers to
his already long list.
“It looked as If Mr. Hardwick was
undertaking a big Job when hv cime

and he was. It has been said of him
that he has much political courage—
and he has. *
“He delivered more than 200 speech
es to the people, face to face, and It
hardly is to he doubted that that cir
stance won him many votes.
"Mr. Watson, too, was agreat aid to
Mr. Hardwick in his campaign. Mr.
Hardwick did not shirk the Watson
issue, rather he emphasised it. It
looked as if every effort of the sage
of Thompson to get at Mr. Hard
wick’s scalplock worked only to the
Congressman's advantage.
"As for me, my hat is off today to
the doughty Congressman from the
Tenth District. He fought hard and
he achieved remarkable results.
"He told me he was going to win—
but I took the liberty of doubting It.r
And while he hasn't won yet, and may,
never win at all, of one thing he may
rest assured— I likely will come near
er believing whatever it Is he next
says to me, the first time he says it,
than I was to believing him when re
cently he said he was bound for the,
promised land!
"He's a great ‘Tom Billie"—and
that's no left-handed compliment
either."
