The Augusta boys went down to de- I feat yesterday afternoon at the hands j of the Savannah Indians in the first home game of the last series to be played in this city this season, the visitors winning out by the large score of 10 to 1. Everything was going nice up until the fourth inning, then —everyone on j the team hit Winchell (in the remain ing innings, of course); Winston get ting four and Lipe and Smallwood three each. Smallwood was in fair form, but received excellent support. In the fourth innipg when Savan nah scored, the play being a close one, the visitors getting the benefit of the doubt, the fans started after Umpire : Moran. Augie got a little excited and j “forgot himself’’ —used profanity in the j presence of ladies —the result was that I President Kalbfleisch had a cop to go out on the diamond and get his "Umps," however, nothing further de veloped than that Moran was “called ; down” and warned —he apologized. j Sensational Plays. There were a few sensational plays pulled off, to say the least, and the afternoon turned out to be a highly ; enjoyable one for the many fans that aie sticking to the “boys” through ; thick and thin. The presentation of the silver bat and ball was postponed yesterday ! until Wednesday on account of two members of the committee being un able to attend the game. Johnny Kilbane Will Engage in One More Battle At His Favorite Weight One Hundred and Twenty-Two Pound Ringside, and Then He Will Oast His Lot to the Next Division, That of the Light weight--Not Worrying Over the Bout With Johnny Dun dee, For He Will Enter the One Hundred and Thirty- Three Pound Class Regardless of Outcome New York, N. Y. —Johnny Kilbane, featherweight champion, will engage in one more contest at his favorite poundage—l 22 pounds ringside—and then will cast his lot in the next di vision, that of lightweight. Kilbane is not spending any sleepless nights worrying over the outcome of his bout with Johnny Dundee next month for he will enter the 133 pound clasH re gardless of how the Dundee clash ter minates. Kilbane has been verging on a leap into the lightweight heap for several monthH, but Dundee nagged so per sistenly for a return match with the. peer of 122 pounders that the obliging Clevelander assented. The only reason Kilbane Is willing to take Dundee on once more at a weight that both will have difficulty in attaining Is to eradicate the otdy questionable bout he has put up since he mounted the featherweight throne. Kilbane has been eminently success ful In all his bouts as champion, ex- CULLS OEFEATEO COLUMBIA EADS Charleston, S. That Blot. It is to wipe out this blot—for Kll bane looks upon .it as such—that the featherweight champion will go through a course of hard training to be In perfect condition to prove, his mastery over Dundee. The pseudo Scotchman will exper ience even more difficulty in padding down to 122 pounds ringside the stip ulated weight for the match. Dundee has been fighting lightweights for over a year and has permitted the weight to accumulate. But he never moved the beam at over 129 pounds. Kilbane Kilbane has been disregarding the featherweight limit in his recent bouts being content to fight at catchwelghts. He had seriously intended to drift in to the lightweight class, as he had set his mind on never fighting In ihe featherweight division again. Despite his laxity in training for recent con tests, Kilbane could tip the beam at no more than 127 pounds. While Willie Ritchie was world’s lightweight champion, Kilbane re peatedly challenged Ritchie to com bat for the 133 pound title. It was Kilbane’s aim to hold the champion ship In two divisions at the same time. But he was denied this chance when Ritchie unwittingly permitted Welsh to lure him Into a match that cost him the premier honors. Not Discouraged. However, Kilbane Is not discouraged fiver the turn of affairs. He figures that he will yet induce Freddie Welsh to fight him at the lightweight limit, and Johnny firmly believes that Welsh will prove an easier proposition than Ritchie would have been. , Kilbane is aware that Welsh is one of the world’s greatest boxers, hut he also is in possession of the fact that Welsh cannot hit hard. In fact the new lightweight boss cannot deliver one-thtrd so forceful a blow as can Ritchie.
