BUT WHERE?
It is so little that I need:
So little that I ask:
Just my own place in Clod’s vast space,.
And time to do my task.
And time to think of things of worth
That might make beautiful the earth.
i
1 am so small; earth is so large;
So young, and Time so old.
And yet I fight by day and night
With hunger, want and cold.
While whip in hand, Fate stands, intent
On urging forward, ogre Kent.
The world is such a great round ball;
It must hold sun and soil
Enough to feed my little need
Without such drudging toil;
There must be green things, light and air,
And peace for me on earth, but where?
