Columbia, S. C.—Columbia and Au gusta met in the first game of the ifnal series of the season yesterday af ternoon and the home club won the contest, sto 4. All of the scoring was dene in the third, fourth and fifth in nings. A. couple of home runs, one over the left field fence and the other to deep left-center, within the enclosure, add ed spice to he game; and were the real features of the afternoon’s enter tainment. The circuit swats were made by Correll and Green. Prank Winchell, for the most of the season a Comer, appeared on the mound against his former teammates. He had good control, much better than Green, but he allowed several hits at critical times and also the two home runs were important factors. Winchell allowed a total of 12 hits and Roy Green, the Comer twirler, was touch ed for eleven. While it was not a game of hair raising stunts and circus catches, it was a good game of baseball. The absence from the line-up of Stuart, who was not feeling well, called for l,ee Correll, who has been out of the I ' jemmSM MteaiSx . , ~iiwaNK. : wl®D -* ::«vi# *.'«•***(<*« «6*z2 *• • .v.iW-‘ •:..•.*•■• Jt f|P§ *3? <qrj7 % ' : /* & /O / . v rverumdu $ i vi) */ «/ ../ •?'•"' 7)nnhs ■ —it answers every bever- I age requirement—vim, E vigor, refreshment, whole someness. 1 It wi7/ satisfy you. ® ■I the genuine ! . \ m by full name ffcgftjllßg* <$ ; Kieknsmr. encourige ; •• , ’ f 47 substitution. —-j -—Vi' * THE COCA-COLA CO. *Hjj ?/ * W. The collegian caught well for several innings and then swapepd places with* Dutch Bernsen, who had been working at second. Rain. A sprinkling of rain, which fell rather briskly for the moment and which threatened to pay a return en gagement at several other intervals, halted the game for a few minutes. A big. black’ cloud hovered over the northwestern part of the sky for the greater part of the game. But two games remain to be played —today and tomorrow. Augusta made three runs before Columbia counted. In the third round Burgess walked and went to second when Smith singled. Clark popped to Green. Berger walked and the bases were S. R. O. At this critical time Montague singled to right and Bur gess and Smith scored, Berger taking third. Barker singled and Berger scored. Montague was thrown out at third trying to go from first to third on the infield single. Marker stole second. Kelly lifted to Ezell and the scoring for this inning was over. Tled-Up. Angered by Augusta’s run-making, the Columbia team made two in its half of the same round. After Fin negan had gone out on a fly to Clark, Osteen drew a pass. Bake beat out an infield hit, sending the manager to second. Bernsen singled to right and Osteen scored and Bake went to third. Correll doubled and Bake scored. Bernsen was thrown out at the plate. Burgess to Montague to Berger. Ezell grounded to Montague. Columbia went one ahead by mak ing two in the fourth. Muldrow start ed with a single, and when Roy Green pasted the ball far away into the ex tremity of left center the two scored. Then Augusta tied it up with one in the fifth. Clark opened with a single to right and went to third when Muldrow let the ball get away from him. He scored on Berger's double to center. The winning run was made by Co lumbia in its half of the fifth. Bee Correll, whom some call Ty, hit one of WincheH’s choice offerings over the left field fence for four bases. The box score: Augusta.
