FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 TO RAZE ANTWERP TO GROUND SAY GERMANS AS MALINES RETAKEN London, 4:25 a. m. —The Mail's cor respondent at Roterdam sends a tele gram from Antwerp dated Thursday night which says: "After a magnificent defense of two days by the Belgian army Malines was re-taken by the Germans. "On the first day 20,000 Germans op posed the Belgians and on the second day 40,000 flung their might against a greatly inferior force. In the end the Belgians retired on Antwerp, leav ing the enemy in possession of the town. The Germans immediately en trenched after ordering the inhabi tants to leave. Wachten and Heindo niek were destroyed by the retreating Belgians to prevent their being used as a cover by the enemy in their oper ations against Antwerp. "Refugees at Roozendaal say the Germans possessed amazing knowledge of the roads. The German attack on Malines was furious and Inspired by a desire to end the sorties which the Belgians were making from the town against their trenches and around Brussels. “The Belgians had made successful attacks on the German lines of com munication and had seriously hamp ered their operations. This necessi tated the return of the fourth German army corps, which had already started for the south. “Sixty thousand Belgian refugees fled from the town. The Germans are furious at the Belgian operations and declare they will raze Antwerp to the ground in revenge.” FOUND GUILTY. Watertown N. Y.— Max H. Hart, Adolphe Wupperman Andrew S. Work and Frank W. Fowler were found guil ty by a jury in federal court here to day of fraudulent use of the mails in connection with the defunct Oneida Milling Company. London, 12:15 p, m.~The Russian embassy has received telegrams confirming the Russian occupation of Tilsit, East Prussia, 60 miles northeast of Koenigs lierg. It is added that the Russians made great captures and that the gar rison and population fled. The embassy's despatches says it was the Russian cruisers Rogatyr and Pallada, which destroyed the German cruiser Magdeburg. The commander of the Magdeburg Is said to have escaped. V NO SPIES SHOT. London.— Home Secretary McKenna stated this afternoon that no spies had been shot in England. There have been rumors that many persons in the secret employ of Germany had been executed. PRINCE LUITPOLD DEAD. Amsterdam, (via London, 3:45 p. m.)— The Telegraaf today sava Prince Luitpold, eldest son of the Crown Prince Ruprecht of Bavaria, is dead of inflammation of the throat. Prince Luitpold was born in 1901.' AVIATORS KILLED. Paris.—An army lieutenant aviator and his pilot, whose names are suppressed were killed today In the fall of their machine at Juvisy. AMERICANS LEAVING. Berlin, (by way of Copenhagen and London).— Special trains carry ing Americans are leaving this city in the morning dally and arrive in Holland 12 hours later. Paris, 2 p. m.—A dispatch from Bercelona, Spain, says that he Span ish steamer Infanta, Isabel de Borbon sailed for New York yesterday with every available berth filled with Americans. WITH 650. Naples, (via Paris, Aug, 28, 6:05 a. m.)— The steamer San Giorgio has sailed for New York with about 650 Americana aboard. KING CHARLES ILL. Rome, (via Paris, Aug. 28, 6:35 a. m.) — A news agency dispatch from Bucharest states that King Charles of Roumania is seriously ill. It Is rumored he will shortly abdicate. , SAYS FORTS O. K. Pa ris, 11:25 a. m.) —The Havas Agency declares today that two mo torcyclists attached to the Belgian army who arrived In Paris tills morn ing from Namur declare that the forts at Namur are still holding out and that they are not even ready to surrender. "The apeparance of a Zeppelin at Antwerp has caused a panic in Lon don. Grave Crisis. "Reports to Berlin from Copenhagen and Stockholm announce that there is a grave crisis In the French gov ernment. The Spanish ambassador at Vienna has called the situation in France very serious. "A meeting today of all foreign col onies in Berlin was held at which a resolution was passed thanking the German government for the kind treatment of foreigners and to express admiration for the wonderful spirit and enthusiasm shown by the German people. “Civilians of the Belgian town of Louvain made n perfidious attack on German troops while lighting. Tokio, Japan. —The commander of the first Japanese squadron has re ported to the navy department, that his torpedo flotilla ran Into a typhoon. Tho boats were scattered and five men lost their lives.
