“Oh! Oh! Delphine"
Messrs. Klaw & Erlanger will pre
sent their big New York musical com
edy success “Oh! Oh! Delphine.” The
piece is in three acts; the book and
lyrics by C. M. S, McLellan and music
by Ivan Caryl, author and composer
of “The Pink Lady” and "The Little
Case," founded on the French farce
"Villa Primrose” by George Berr and
Marcel Guillemaud. The plot, which
is full of amusing complications and
humoror situations, concerns the ad
ventures of Victor Jolibeau, who is
seeking a model for his painting
“Venus Rising from the Sen,” who
must have aperfect left shoulder, and
his search for a flawless feminine
shoulder brings about many laughable
incidents The music is said to be in
Ivan Caryl's most catchy and melodi
ous vein, and the entire production
will be magnificent in scenic and cos
tume equipment. The first act is la'd
in the entrance and lounge of the
hotel Beau Rivage at Brest; the sec
ond In the veranda and rose garden
of the Villa Primrose and the third
in the reception hall opening into the
hall room of the hotel.
Al Field’s Band.
No stage organization is accompa
nied by a band so well adapted to
giving real "band" music as the oae
with the Al. G. Field Minstrels. This
is because Manager Field recognizes
from his twenty-eight years' experi
ence that everybody is partial to the
music of the band. He knows from
a consideration of the subject that
this partiality is right in the blood
of the human race, because the first
strains that ever delighted man were
the lively, swinging celebrant ones
made by horns and similar instru
ments which produced sounds analo
gous to the music of the band.
Any observer knows that the Imme
diate effect of band music on any
crowd is that of exhilaration. A feat
ure, too, of band music is that it makes
classic music just as acceptable as
"popular" music. Billy Busch's Ban
ner Band, which has been engaged for
the entier tour this season of the Al
G. Field minstrels Is pre-eminent for
the "bund” quality In Its renditions,
and will be heard here on Sept. 30th,
when the Field Minstrels will play Its
annual engagement at the Grand,
matinee and evening.
