Belay in Selection of New Pope
Due to Speech of Belgian Pre
late---Politics vs. Highest
Church Function
Rome, 7:25 p. m. (via Paris, 5:29
a. m.) —It is reported on good author
ity that the delay of the conclave in
selecting a pope was due to a speech
of Cardinal Mercier, of Belgium, who
said that present conditions in the
world, but especially In Wurope, made
it impossible for the cardinals to per
form the supreme duty of their posi
tion without a reference to the hor
rors of war.
Cardinal Mevcier was supported by
the French and Knglish cardinals
while the Germans and Austrians, it
is said, protested against what they
called an undue interference of poli
tics with the highest spiritual func
tion of the church.

’ Best Map Made
Large and Clear
The WAR MAP, in FIVE
COLORS, was originally made
in Europe by the expensive
wax process, as clear and
smooth as a steel engraving,
and the most accurate process
ever discovered for map mak
ing. The colors are distinctive,
and all rivers and mountain
ranges are clearly outlined.
The type is all large and dis
tinct and every city and town
of importance is plainly indi
cated. Cheaply drawn maps
cannot .possibly give the infi
nite detail shown .on this au
thentic map.
OPEN LETTER
Fo Our Customers in Georgia
and South Carolina
The present European war situation has disorganized
the financial world, and is having its effect upon business in
our section, caused principally by the uncertain basis upon
which the present cotton crop must be financed and market
ed. We are now going through a “reconstruction period” and
our country will soon adjust itself to a sound and stable basis
upon which we will all do business, live and prosper.
With an abiding faith in the value of cotton we are wil
ling to do business on a COTTON STANDARD at 10c per
pound, on all sales to cotton producers or shippers, made
after Sept. Ist, 1914.
In accepting cotton at 10c per pound in payment for
Remington, Smith Premier and Monarch Typewriters we
require that it be on basis of Augusta middling and delivered
to us f. o. b. Augusta, Ga.
Yours truly,
