BACA IN JAIL
Indicted For Murder in First
Degree. Accused of Killing
Mrs. Louise Bailey
Mineola, N. Y.—Mrs. Florence Car
man, wife of Pr. Edwin Cnrmtui.
Freeport physician, will be tried for
murder In the first degree. Accused
of killing Mrs. Louise Bailey, one of
her husband's patients, Mrs. Carman
was indicted by the grand Jury late
yesterday.
The charge of first degree murder
supersedes the one of manslaughter
returned by the same Jury a few
weeks after Mrs. Bailey was shot.
June 30th, in the physician’s office.
The new indictment was based on the
testimony of witnesses produced since
the Jury first considered the case
Mrs. Carman has been free on $15,-
000 bail. Thursday, however, she was
ramanded to the sheriffs care, which
means she will be in Jail here until
her trial, the date of which has not
been set.
l'tstrict Attorney Smith announced
tonight he would apply soon for an
order convening an extraordinary
term of the superior court to try Mrs
Carman. tfthe order Is granted the
trial will probably begin In October.

Wireless Stating News to

Washington.—The German embassy
today received the following wireless
from Berlin:
“Herr Helffrich, director of the
Deutsche Bank, after touring in Bel
gium states: ‘News of destruction of
Belgian towns is exaggerated. Ver
viere and Tirlmont, industrial centers,
and Charleroi, quite intact; Louvain
and Dinant only partly destroyed.
Insidiously Killed.
“After the surrender of Ghent a
German officer was Insidiously killed
and another wounded.
“The Russian cavalry burned from
sheer lust of destruction, although
there was no fighting in that district,
the splendid castle of Count Mirbach,
the Prussian parliamentarian.

attacks the British government, de
claring in a long article that England
brought about the war under a futile
pretext and that Germany was never
unfair against England.
