WANTS INQUIRY BY AMERICANS Suggestion That Three Jurists of High Distinction Investi gate Charges Against Ger mans London, 12:45 a. m. —An inquiry by American jurists Into the allegations of German disregard of the rules of civilized warfare is suggested today by the Weekly Spectator. “Undoubtedly American jurists would command most general confi dence," The Spectator says. “We can not ask President Wilson or the Amer ican government to appoint such a committee of inquiry. They would naturally be afraid of annoying the German government by so doing and of imperilling that strict neutrality which they desire to maintain in the case of the German empire. "We do not see, however, why the French, British and Belgian govern ments should not privately invite three American jurists of high distinction to undertake the work. “President Wilson could hardly for bid Americans to conduct such an in quiry.” shaMtoTiff FOR ANTARCTIC London. —Sir Ernest Shackleton and the members of his trans-Antarctic expedition left Londay today in two sections for the South Polar region. One party, headed by Sir Ernest, de parted for South America; the other half of the expedition left for Ross sea, on the New Zealand side of the Ant arctic, by way of Tasmania. Whenever I stuck my head out into a corridor the soldiers would set up a cheer on seeing my side whis kers.
