SHILLINGS DAY ?
Sporting Men Say That it is
Now George’s Turn-- He is a
Southerner Who Has Made
Good in the North.
Boston, Mass.—An idea thnt. is
hound to make a hit with Boston
fans was sprung at the Pen and Pen
cil Club last night. Johnny Mooney,
president and manager of the well
known down-town sporting men's re
sort in Dock Bquare, gathered several
baseball players, newspaper men and
tetora (real actors, not ball actors),
about him and said:
“Why not a ‘Stallings day* at Fen
way Park 7”
Nobody could «ee why not, and
after allowing the idea to sink in,
Mooney continued: “Stallings is the
man who put the National League on
the map in Boston. Individual play
ers have been given a ‘day/ why not
their boas? I believe that a Stallings
day would shade even Maranville day
or Fivers day. In fact it would bo
the biggest thing of its kind ever at
tempted.
“This fellow is a Southerner who
has made good in the North. Me has
attended strictly to his own business,
which is that of running a ball club.
The people would he glad to show
Stallings that they appreciate him."
As a result of Mooney’s eloquence
President Gaffney and Secretary
Nickerson will probably hear from
the fans, and this means that there
will he a Stallings day if the Braves'
modest leader will stand for It.
Later in the evening Mooney re
marked that bo was one of the kickers
when Myers were let out and Schmidt
taken on, but that be has long since
ceased to kick, and is now firm in the
faith that Stallings knows baseball.
