In view of testimony like this from

AL. G. FIELD’S.
Four mammoth spectacles, using
every inch of stage space available,
from wall to wall, are presented In the
A 1 G. Field Minstrel production for
this season as the vehicles for intro
ducing the most varied, elaborate,
and entertaining program of minstrel
sy ever arranged. The first Ameri
can minstrel show, with the changes
since that time, are presented in the
opening number, and it concludes with
rich stage pictures epitomizing the
Old South and the New South. A
scene in the majestic Grand Canyon,
with water falls, river, and lake
gorgeous with moonlight, is the back
ground for the Indian travesty “Min
na Ha Ha." The vast Arctic North,
with the ice resplendent from reflec
tions of sun, moon and stars are re
vealed in "The Land of the Midnight
Sun." The Panama-Pacific Exposi
tion impresses upon the audience the
comprehensiveness of the exhibits, the
gala tone of the architecture, the
brilliance of the illumination, and the
exotic beauty of the Pacific coast
night. The production is at the Grand
next Wednesday, matinee and even
ing.
“TODAY."
Coming to the Grand Thursday,
October Ist, is "Today," the vital and
vivid drama of New York life by
George Hroadhurst and Abmahtn
Schomer. “Today" is described as a
dtamatic and somewhat startling ex
position of a certain phase of New
York life the existence of which has
never been denied. It is not a white
slave drama, nor is it a “red light”
play, it Is an intensely human doc
ument, as true as It is human, and
one which has commanded the atten
tion and aroused the interest of the
various individuals and societies
working for the betterment of society
in general. Woman's love of luxury
and personal adornment and the craze
for vulgar display and outdoing one’s
neighbors, for the foundation upon
which the authors have builded a real
istically gripping story of modern
family life, which has no counterpart
on the stage. Shown, as through a
microtteope, is the mental and moral
degeneration of a vain, shallow, self
ish wife, and shown also In an ex
tremely thrilling climax is the heavy
hand of retribution encircling her
throat.
For the Manuscript Producing Com
pany, producers of "Today," Harry
Von Tllzer, managing director, has
assembled a cast of splendid attain
ments, including George MacQuarrie,
Helen MacKellar, Helen Judson, Chas.
N. Greene, May Herbert, Amelia May
