Opened unchanged to 1 1-4 lower and in ,ater dealings was at a moderate setback all around. Fine weather had a bearish effect on corn. After opening 1-4 to 1-2 lower prices recovered somewhat but still tended to sag. Oats developed independent strength on buying by speculative leaders. Provisions went lower on a fall In hogs. Subsequently wheat's heaviness be came more pronounced on the magnitude owing to primary receipts and absence of foreign inquiry. Closed weak 3-4 to 2 1-2 net lower. All the fooJ, ammunition and war material which was being conveyed back to Austria has fallen into Russian hands. The captures include 500 military automo biles. Tells Cotton Ass’n Pink 801 l Worm Lenox, Mast. —Secretary Woodbury de scribed to the convention of the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers to day the efforts which had been made by the department of agriculture In co-op eration with cotton manufacturers to prevent a spread of the Egyptian pink boll worm to American cotton fields. "The pink boll worm where It thrives in Egypt,” said Mr. Woodbury, "bus both Impaired the staple and reduced the output In some instances as much as 50 per cent.” As a result of a hearing last May Mr. Woodbury reported the department adopted his suggestion that manufac turers using Egyptian cotton bo request ed to burn each day all picker waste and seeds because the pink boll worm often was found in seeds.
