EVERY HERALD REAL ESTATE ADVERTISEMENT IS A "BUSINESS PROPOSITION” Made to People Who Aspire to Home-Ownership or Property Investment, and if is to be Hoped This Means YOU MUCH INTEREST, SLANDER CASE Dr. Sampson Williams, of Aiken, on Trial For Alleged Aspersions on Character of Pretty Assistant Postmistress Aiken, S. C. —The case of Sampson Williams, indicted for slander in is creating much interest throughout Aiken county. Wednesday the court room was crowded with people from all sections. Ths charge against Dr. Williams who Is a prominent dentist of Wage* ner, is that he circulated damaging reports relative to the character of pretty Miss Emma Garvin, assistant post-mistress at Wagener. She drew much attention in the court room to day because of her attractiveness She was very becomingly and stylishly dressed in a rich black and white plaid coat suit and wore a dainty lit tle black hat with veil. She is about twenty years old and come from one of the most prominent families of that section of Aiken county. From the evidence gained in the case so far, it appears that Dr. Wil liams is a rejected lover and took spite on the young lady by circulating false reports. He had been going with her for a number of years but they had had a fuss because of the habits of Dr. Williams and she had stopped re ceiving his attentions. The prosecu tions claims that he circulated reports about her and some married men of Wagener, derogatory to her character. The prosecution finished with their witnesses in the afternoon. Messrs. J. B. Salley and J. C. Busbee are as sisting Solicitor Gunter in the prose cution w'hile Messrs. ’T. G. Croft and J. E. Williams represent the defense. There were frequent clashes between the attornys. Th case will probably last another day. This is the first case of its kind to come up under a law passed in 1912, W'hich makes it a misdemeanor L> cir culate or publish a false statement or matter concerning another which will tend to injure the character of an other. Anyone found guilty of such is liable to a fine of $5,000 or impris onment for one year, or both in the discretion of the court. Swappers’ Column. SEND Tn YOUR SWAPS.
