HOME EDITION .VOLUME XIX, No. 278. WOMEN'S APPAREL in all it's BEAUTY White’s annual Fall and Winter Opening and Display of Fashions begins Monday morning, and will continue through the week. There will be music from 10:30 to 12:30 and from 3:30 to 5:30 Monday. DRESSES MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A close fitting basque and tiered skirt reflects the styles of a half century back. As a general thing dresses hark back to the middle of the nine teenth century, but there are many instances where the Empire is used, but the tiered skirt holds its own even there. Most beautiful materials are used for morning dresses, fine French and English serges being given preference, and combined with satins. Satins, charmeuses and meteor are used for af ternoon dresses. Colors are black, putty and smoke grey, nought blue, olive green, etc. Charming color effects are gained by moss green velvet but tons on a putty colored satin, or raspberry embroid ery on a midnight blue. Evening dresses surpass description ! One In stance will be eonugh. A pale pink charmeuse satin foundation is used under a long tunic and blouse of gold lace. A loop of royal purple velvet catches two red poppies on the left shoulder. The tendency is toward the very loose, prefer ably hanging from the shoulders. The Mourning Department Sometime ago we made the announcement that we would be in position to supply sudden de mands for mourning garments for immediate wear ing. The Fall Opening finds this department well and beautifully stocked. Suits, Dresses, Blouses, Skirts and Petticoats for complete and semi-mourn ing are to be found here. Your attention is invited to this department. There are Napoleon Hat*, the Admiral Hat, copies of the headgear worn by German, Russian, Belgian. French and British soldiers. And from the Church Is the Blretta Hat, the Mitre Hat, the Cardi nal’s Hat. and variations and modifications thereof. Trimmings are richly colored, with metallic effects, velvet flowers, fruits and foliage, ribbon bows and countless forms of the ostrich feather and fan leading. These are among the foremost smart styles for Fall and Winter at hue's. THE AUGUSTA HERALD aßaffiggCTißsgß^?Sß3safigg&ygMSßß3igs^aßgß^iKsgß —J?*r You are invited to inspect the styles for yourself. The Coat Suit A Thing of Graceful Lines and Ideas Lines and materials and colors have been so skillfully combined in Fall and Winter Coat Suits as to create the great est amount of enthusiasm. The general effect is that of a flare, from shoulder to ankle, looseness and fullness aiding and abetting the effect. Circular skirts to coats and circular ruf fles on skirts of dresses attain the bell shaped effects about the bottom of the costume. Among the more striking suits at White’s, which show these flaring lines, are Douce, Worth, Mayer and Cou tille copies, in very handsome pieces of broadcloth. And this leads to the statement that broadcloth is to be used almost entirely in the dressier and higher priced suits. Imported garbadines are shown consider able partiality, but only when they are very fine pieces. Crepe cloths, poplins and other finely finished goods are used in the cheaper suits. But throughout, the question of materials has been so finely discriminated as to present only the best appearance. The 1914-1915 season sees the intro duction of many new colors, and old fa vorites under new names. Oyster greys, midnight blues, duck blue, Hague blue are among the favored colors. Faddists have drilled away at Tete-de-negre and buckeye to such an extent that they too have become very popular. This is not unusual, considering the soft tones of the “Nigger Brown” and the wine tones of the buckeye. The coat suit is a charming creation, a thing of graceful lines and ideas. Hats Take Their Shapes From the Army and the Church They are large and small; they are light and dark. Snug Turbans, striking In their dec orations, Colonial shapes suggesting a military motif, sailors—these and many others are the shapes. The Co lonial Is perhaps the most Interest ing, because of the military motif sug gested therein. Weather: • Probably Fair THE ONE PAPER IN MOST HOMES—THE ONLY PAPER IN MANY HOMES AUGUSTA, GEORGIA, SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 4, 1914. Evening Wraps and Coats Evening wraps and coats have sounded such a different note this Fall that they may not be passed over without comment. The cape has made its effect on both, and the evening wrap is still a curious mixture of cape and coat. But Coats, in order to bring in the effect of both, have fallen into Inverness lines. Broadcloths, panne and velour velvet and satin are used with most pleasing effect for wraps, and rough tweeds, cheviots and zebe line cloths for the coats. There are no sleeves in any of the wraps. Openings in the side permit of the hand being thrust through. The fronts are cut-a-way. The new bias collar and shoulder caoes are features of the wraps. Coats are slowly reverting to the times when the stately minuet was the dance, and powdered wigs in vogue. Inexpensive Dancing Frocks From the multitude of handsome and ex pensive suits and dresses being displayed to morrow at White’s, the collection of inex pensive dancing frocks stands out boldy. It is a noteworthy fact that the variety in prices and materials makes White’s an ideal shopping place, whether it be for a suit, a hat, a dress, a waist, or materials, or any of the thousand and one little accessories of dress. But these dancing frocks are so exception al in price and appearance that comment is due them. Inconsequent and thoroughly expressive of youg people, they will be found in a case to themselves, every one bearing their remark able story of values in their respective tickets. Afternoon Program.
