SURPRISE OF TOE EAST PRUSSIA
CAMPAIGN IS THE REMARKABLE
NUMBERDFRUSSIAN PRISONERS
In Less Than Three Weeks of Field Fighting, Official State

One Hundred and Fifty Thousand of the Enemy---Other
Surprises.
Berlin—Now that the Germans have
succeeded in dear-lny Kant I Tannin,
of the Russians, Herman army officer*

of prlaoner* taken in no *hort a time
and in field flnhtlnn. In lea* than

Ruaaian Aggressiveness.
The first surprise the Russian* gave
the German military leader* wan the
snnresslve way in which they pushed
this campiagn. It had been suppos
ed In ' mllllary quarter* here they
would occupy strong defensive post
tions behind the Vistula and other
stream* and await attack*. Instead,
however, they pushed Into Kant l’rua
sla In (treat number* at. a very early
stage of the war and they are still
moving forward in Galicia.
From this fact Is In Inferred here
that Russia's mobilisation was very
far advanced and other preparations
for war begun long before the Ht.
Petersburg government admitted that
even nne aoldler had been called to
the colors.
No Closs Formation.
The next uurprlse was that the Rus
sian generals no longer send their
troops In close formation, as In prev
ious wars, but have modernised thdt
tactics and try to utilise all the ad
vantages of the ground. The shoot
ing at the Infantry, however, was
found to be still very Ineffective.
With the field artillery the case 1*
quite different. It* firing is remark
ably good. Te accurate Russian gun
nery was considerably neutralised,
however, by the large proportion of
Shells which failed to explode.
Wearing Patent Leathers.
This origin and development of ru
mors of the enemy's defects has been
an Interesting study of war A re
port, for Instance that a French pris

ent leather shoes would appear In
*ome local papers. It would be taken
up. tossed from newspaper to sol
diers and from soldiers back to he
newspapers until In a few days he
entire French army was marching in
to battle In dancing pumps.
* The Cossacks have again proved
that they are of little value, accord

The German officers speak much more
favorably of the regular Russian

Daring Exploit of
German Officers
Berlin, (vis The Hague and London,
1:50 p. m.) —A daring exploit of two
German officers attached to the twen
ty-fourth pioneers recently resulted
In the destruction of a railroad lino
upon which the French were trans
porting ammunition and greatly need
ed reinforcements.
The two officers penetrated the
French lines by swimming across the
Meuse and making their way through
swamps and over canals. They pass
ed the French outposts, finally reach
ed the railroad embankment which
they bIQW up with dynamite, then cut
an underground telegraph wire and
returned In safety.

“My old grouchy days are funny to

nature help herself. Give your body
a chance to make good. Heal the raw

body well—give It the chance to make
Itself well. Harmful and strong med
icines handicap the system. Stuart’s

up the digestive Julees. Stuart's Dys
pepsia Tablets are these concentrated
Ingredients—that is all there is to It.
One grain of a certain Ingredient con

Hard Kitocks Await the Allies
With Germany on the De

Times Expert.
London. —The military expert of The
Times Saturday says:
"However much we tnay bend back
the German right wing and relieve
Antwerp, whatever confidence we have
that the shock of the Russian masses
In the east will prove decisive, we
must not entertain the slightest illus
slon regarding the hard and trying
condition which awaits all the allies
In the future In operating against Ger
many reduced to the defensive.
"Germany Is still united. Her re
sources grow atop. All her might In
arms, all her arsenals are working
at full pressure. Her fleet will strike
when the hour comes, probably In co
operation with the army.
“The line of the Alsne when forced
may prove to be only one of the many
similar lines prepared In the rear of
It: It may take a very long time for
the allies to compel Germany to feel
a weakness. It, therefore, devolves
upon the allies to look forward to a
long war.”

LIGHT-WEIGHT SIX

Don’t you want to be proud of the new car you buy ?—not
merely satisfied with it, but satisfied and proud of it?
Chandler owners are proud of their cars.
They are proud of the car that proved a high-grade six
of medium size could be built to sell for less than S2OOO.
They are proud of the car that changed the whole trend
of the automobile industry toward light sixes.
They are proud of the powerful, quiet, beautifully
made Chandler long stroke motor, with its Bosch
Magneto for ignition, genuine imported Coventry
silent chain instead of noisy gears for motor shafts,
its self-contained oiling system, separate unit electric
starting and lighting system, its cast aluminum
motor base extending from frame to frame, its pearl
gray baked enamel finish, and all its other features.
They are proud because this really marvelous
motor is of Chandler design and Chandler make, and
not a common stock motor found in various kinds
and grades of cars.
They are proud of the grace of Chandler body
design, and the deep lasting beauty of Chandler
finish; proud of the comfortable roominess of the
car and luxury of its cushions.
They congratulate themselves on selecting such a
car at such a fair price.
