ANNETTE KELLfiRMANN.
Tlie thousands of women who have
seen Annette Kellermann, who comes to
the Grand Theater today in the spec
tacular pictorial production, “Neptune’s
Daughter,” and who have heard Miss
Kellermann referred to as “the perfect
woman” have been axious to know what
constitutes the ideal measurements for
the female form. The standard meas
urements are those of the Venus de
Milo and Diana,
Authorities have decided that the form
of Venus is the perfect woman’s figure
although the athletic woman follows
more closely the lines of Diana. The
following table comparing the measure
ments of Annette Kellermann, Venus de
Milo, and Diana, will show why the
"diving Venus” has a right to the title,
perfect woman:”

THE PSYCHOLOGY
OF THE COUPON
Interesting Subject Which Has
Not Been Taken Up By Men
tal Philosophers.
“Why did the little mouse run up
the clock?" and “How old is Anne?”
are two questions that are not gen
erally answered intelligently. A third
question has threatened to join in
making a puzzling trio. Many inter
ested readers have asked, “Why the
coupon?"
Going back to the origin of the word
Itself we find that coupon comes from
the word couper, meaning cut. Let
us take it in its broadest sense, to
mean something to cut out and pre
sent for dividends. This takes us
back to the intended use of the original
word. Then the true meaning of cou
pon is a slip of paper or a certificate
to be detached from a bond entitling
the holder to some specified accommo
dation. Therein lies the answer to
the question, “Why the coupon?’
whtoh philosophers of mental science
have failed to answer.
The psychological inference is that
readers consider The Herald a bond
froh which they can detach a coupon
entitling them to some specific thing
of value. Indeed this is true, for in
the present case one coupon will en
title the holder to a copy of the first
part of "The Nations at War” when
accompanied by the small expense fee,
which barely covers the cost of pro
duction. Parts are issued every two
weeks and the entire series will go to
make up a complete story of the great
war of Europe.
Readers must realize that on such
terms no profits can accrue, so the
psychology of the coupon is easily
explained. It is an assurance that
the newspaper is presenting an un
usual offer for the benefit of its read
ers. in which everyone should partici
pate.

IUNTONLOST
II THE ACADEMY
Cadets Added a Win to Record
Yesterday by Defeating These
High School Lads 37 to 0.
• -
The A. R. C. eleven invaded the
enemy’s country yesterday, Warren
ton, and were victorious in the first
battle of the season there.
The Warrenton High School war
riors trained their heavy artillery on
the cadets, getting a lead in the be
ginning of the conflict. However, the
locals, who had a slight advantage of
weight and training managed to over
come this slight handicap, and after
once doing so, were able to advance
the ball practically at their own will,
which incidentally spelt defeat for the
representatives of Warrenton, by the
score of 37 to 0.
A. R. C. Played Good.
In the first quarter Bryant made
the first touchdown, accomplishing
this feat by bucking It across. Bryant
then scored another, when Silver fell
on a blocked punt that crossed the
Warrenton goal line, on a ten yard
buck, having made 50 yards on a for
ward pass.
Davis suffered an Injury in the first
part of the play and therefore was not
called on a single time.
As all of the cadets played excel
lent ball, therefore, no one in particu
lar could be termed the hero of the
day—tn fact, the whole team worked
like a "machine”; one like George
Stallings has gathered together.
Coach Learned and Athletic Direc
tor Chester accompanied the team.
To Play Hero Friday.
The Academy will again play War
rpnton Friday, but this time the battle
will be staged on the A. R. C. grid
iron. There’s going to be some game
thla time, for the “defeated eleven"
claims that they have found their
weak points and are going to plug
them up. Well, this makes no dif
ference to the locals for all that they
are looking for 1s a good game—ln
which they are able to give the other
fellows an account of themselves.
Look out Warrenton 1
