With Battle in Belgium Far
From Being Settled Today,
Paris Derives Satisfaction
From Words of French Com
mander.
Paris, 6:50 a. m.— The issue of the
battle in Belgium was apparently still
far from a determination today. That
the Germans had made up their minds
to reach decision in this part of the
theatre of war was indicated by the re
port that their general staff has issued
a further call for troops from Belgium
and Germany for concentration in the
vicinity of Dixmunde where some of
the most severe fighting in the battle
of Flanders hos occurred.
Allies Gain.
The gain of the allies in the region
to the south of Dlxmude as officially
announced showed they are able, de
spite the heavy and continuous can
nonading and the attacks of the Ger
man infantry, to take the offensive
against the German contingents which
previous!; had succeeded in crossing
the Yser. This news was received
with much satisfaction by the public
here as was also the announcemen re
garding the offensive movement by the
French around Nacy.
"Blow in Stomach.”
Aa to the action in this vicinity the
French recalled a recent remark by
General Castelnau when in putting the
public on its guard against possible
bad newt he said:
"We will perhaps receive a blow In
the stomach but we ar e sure to return
It”

from St. Mlhiel to Met* is, it is pre

cult position the German forces
which have tried, sh crossing the
Meuse, to work a Junction with their
forces fighting In Argonne.
Ground for Hope.
Furthermore the advance of the
French and Knglish between Ypres and
Roulers also gave ground for hope
here. As to when this contest In the
north would he finished there is no
good prediction.
French military men said, however
that the prolongation of the battle
gave no reason for losing patience.
Discussing tiie possibility of an at
tack on Verdun, General Pierre Cher
fils today declared its defense was un
limited since It was solidly attached
to the allies' army of Argonne.
Verdun's Strength.
The enemy, he said, after testing the
strength of Verdun gradually would
give up the hope of attempting to bring
about its fall.
France, according to the general,
still has more than a million men in
reserve to give battle to the Germans,
to say nothing of the large number of
volunteers. These are so numerous in
fact that many are being refused.
STRANGLES HIS CHILDREN.
Bhreveport, La.—Roland Williamson,
an attorney of this city, early today is
alleged to have strangled to dwith two
of hla children, a girl, aged eight, and
an infant son. as they lay asleep.
Two other children were unmolested.
Williamson later was found some dis
tance from his home In his night cloth
ing and placed in Jail. He is believed
to be insane.

FELL IN LOVE* WITH MOVIE
ACTRESS; KILLED HIMSELF
Atlanta. —Because he fell In love
with a beautiful “girl on the movie
screen,” though he had never seen
the original, G. V. Williams, 19 years
old, drank carbolic acid in his room
on Whitehall street late yesterday af
ternoon and was found dead, with the
picture of Alice Joyce, motion picture
star, smiling down on him from the
wall. An open Bible was by his side.
The boy came to Atlanta several
months ago from Middlesex, N. C., and
went to work for a railroad company,
In the offices. He was lonely in the
city, and made a few friends. He
began going to the movie shows, and
his acquaintances say he was especial
ly faithful in following the pictures
in which Alice Joyce was featured. He
talked often of her beauty and ex
pressed a desire to meet her some day.
Some of Williams’ friends say It
was not so much Infatuation for the
girl on the screen that caused his
death as his brooding over a false
charge made against him some time
ago, when a man stopping in a down
town hotel accused Williams of rob
bing him. The young man was ar
rested and held under bond, and bis
case would have come up In a short
time. His lawyer says Williams would
have had absolutely no trouble in es
tablishing his Innocence but had beuu
cast down over the Injury to his repu
tation.

You Smoke a “Better” Tobacco
—Why Not Smoke The Best?
THE tobacco you now smoke you con
sider “better tobacco than you ever
smoked before.” Naturally, you kept
trying until you found a “better” one.
But it stands to reason that since there is
a difference in tobaccos, you may be miss
ing still greater pleasure in -a still better smoke
—in the BEST smoke, in fact.
Tuxedo is the best smoke because no
better tobacco leaf grows, and no process of
treating tobacco leaf equals the original
“Tuxedo Process.”

The Perfect Tobacco for Pipe and Cigarette
We know that Tuxedo is made of the
BEST tobacdb—rich, mellow, perfectly aged
Kentucky Burley. None better can be
bought , because none better is grown.
It is treated by the famous original “Tuxedo
Process” for removing the sting and bite of the
natural vegetable oils.
Tuxedo was born in 1904. Its first imitator
appeared two years later.
Since then a host of imi
tations have sprung up.
No other tobacco can
give the unique pleasure
of Tuxedo because no
other maker has yet been
able to equal the Tuxedo
quality.
