EMERGENCY RELIEF.
To Th* Herald.
In medicine first aid la often neres
*ary to relieve Buffering. In service
for the destitute, relief for the urgent
need—food, fuel, clothing—must he
given without delay, but although of
ten necessary this step la never final
In meeting our obligations to the poor.
The Aaaoctnted Charities of Augus
ta meets, promptly, all oaae* of urgent
need which are brought to Its notice,
Its object la always TO H»LP THOSI3

BELIEVES INTRODUCTIONS UN
NECESSARY.
To The Herald:
An Item In The Herald a few days
ago quoted a country boy aa saying
that the girls of Augusta wore cold;
that during his stay here he couldn’t
get acquainted with even one of them.
Which prom, ts me lo object lo the
thing called "conventionality.”
To Illustrate' A girl boards a street
car. Hhe slta down. Opposite her In
the car Is a young mnn. He looks at
hei. She looks at him. Both look like
they would give anything to converse
with the other. Hut what keeps them
apart? t'onverttoimllty. I believe that
the weird should ho abolished. If we
like anyone, and the other person likes
us, why Is It necessary for an Intro
duction? A mutual friend rarely Is
obtainable in such an Instance and
the result is that a good companion
Is lost. 1, A WHENCE H.
WHY A PUP CHASES HIS TAIL.
To The Herald;
1 want to say to the woman who
has a puppy that chases his (all that
that notion comes from abundant
Anergy. 1 have had considerable ex
perience In raising Scotch collie pups
and 1 never yet saw one that did not
have that trick when between three
months and one year old. After he Is
old enough to settle down to his regu

To The Herald;
What are the. mothers thinking of
these days? 1 never was eo dumb
founded In my life aa I was at six
young people who rode out on the ear
with me Sunday night. They got on
somewhere downtown and passed
through the cur In u loud and boister
ous manner. They lodged in the front
vestibule, where they sang songs that
consisted mainly of noise. They fi
nally came Into the car, probably be
cause the motorman's patience hud
worn threadbare. They sat on the
front aeatH, where they Joked, giggled
and finally the hoys and gills ex
changed hata.
I heard one man say, "Give them an
other drink and (hey will be all right. ’’
Now. probably these boys and girls
hadn't been drinking, but it Is a cer
tainly that their good breeding and
sense were lost, strayed or stolen. I
. wish they could have seen themselves
as others saw them. They were loud,
. course and rough. Their hair was In
strings and the paint! Whew’ 1 think
ettch girls ure (he fruits of lax gov
ernment in Ihe home.
There should be a law preventing
children under 1C having beaux. In
my young days a girl, while In public,
at least, kept her voice lowered and
didn't even put her hands on a young
man. much less remove her dlshrag
hat and Jamb It down on hla head and
Siam hla giddy lid on her head.
