Seven Southern States will return solid democratic delegations to the house ns follows: Alabama, 10; Arkansas, 7: Florida 4; Georgia, 12; Mississippi, 8; South Carolina, 7; Texas, 18. The defeat of the democratic nomi nee In the Third Louisiana District Is attributed to the removal of the tariff on sugar by congress. The district is a sugar-producing center. Theodore Roosevelt made several speeches In behalf of the progressive cause there. Voters In Texas defeated a proposed constitutional amendment for the. es tablishment of the Initiative, referen dum and recall. The progressive vote In the state was greatly reduced. Progressives In Georgia, however, showed greater strength than til 1912. GOVT RECEIPTS OFF. Washington.—Government receipts from ordinary sourcea were nearly $10,000,000 less during October than for October last year. Customs re ceipts were off about $14,000,000 and Internal revenue nearly $5.000,000. The figures were In contrast with the showing for September when total re ceipts fell off only about $4.000.000 with customs below the same month In 1918 about $9,500,000 and Internal revenue receipts Increased $6,000,000. The effect of the new revenue war tax will not notiuaably swell the treas ury's total for several weeks. Ga.—Real money—gold and gold certificates—is piled up in the vault of the Third National Bank Building to the amount of 'BOO,OOO, awaiting the opening of the federal reserve bank in the Hurt Building on November 16th. This represents the subscriptions of the member banks in the Atlanta district. The gold and currency came in by express, and when it is moved to its new vaults a special police guard will escort It through the streets. M. W. Bell, the assistant secretary of the new bank, has arrived from New Orleans to begin his work. Chair man M. B. Wellborn of Anniston. Ala., is expected this week. BRANCH SUCCEEDS PARKER. Greenville, S. C. —M. C. Branch, of Richmond, Va„ today was elected president of the Parker Cotton Mills Company by the board of directors at a meeting held in New York, accord ing to private messages received here last night. Mr. Branch succeeds Lewis W. Parker, of Greenville, resigned. The Parker Company is one of the largest in the country and operates many mills in the South. FUTURE HARD WORK FOR OA. R. R. COMMISSION Atlanta, Ga. —Next week will bring a saeson of hard work for the Georgia Railroad Commission, for hearings of a score or more of important cases are scheduled. Many of the petitions are from the various railroads which wish to cut off certain parts of the train service and thus reduce operat ing expenses. Ral ston today Issued a proclamation call ing upon the people of Indiana to subscribe to a fund to be used In re lief work for distressed non-combat ants In Europe. A cablegram from the relief committee in London re ceived by the governor yesterday sug gested the issuance of the proclama tion.
