HOME EDITION VOLUME XIX, No. 312. RUSS ACCOUNT OF FLIGHT OF THE AUSTRIANS Great Victory Won We Owe to the “Grace of God Who Blesses Superhuman Heroism of Our Troops.” Paris, 2 a. m.—An official statement by the Russian general staff is given in a I’etrografl dispatch to the Havas Agency. '■ t says: “Fierce combats on the River San and south of I’rzemysl, which have been going on for more than three weeks, resulted November sth in a general retreat. of the Austrians. "On the preceding night the Aus trians made a last effort to repulse our troops who were crossing the San. Until a late hous the enemy attacked on an extended front, taking the of fensive in dense, successive lines, but everywhere enormous losses and were repulsed. Energetic Pursuit. “On November sth, the enemy’s col umns commenced to move from the (T-an in the direction of Dultla Pass, [across the Carpathians and south of IPrsemysl seeking everywhere to leave Uie battle front. We pursued them energetically all along the line. “The abandonment by the main Austrian forces of the line of the San Is the result of the victorious battle fought at the end of September, the original purpose of which was to block the offensive of the Austro-Germau armies against Warsay and Ivango rod. For 330 Miles. “At the beginning of October our troops were engaged along a line ex tending for 330 miles and passing through Warsaw, Kozienica, Przemysl and Czernowitz. Toward October 20 we succeeded in gaining a dicisive success over the Germans on the right bank of the Vistula in the region of Warsaw. “Our next object was to strike from the north those portions of the enemy’s forces still holding positions on the Vistula and ' the San. In the fighting, which lasted from October 23rd to 27th, we succeeded in break ing the stubborn resistance of the Austro-German army in the Kozien ica-Ivangorod region. In danger of being turned beyond Pilitza this army fell "back pursued by our troops. Compelled to Retreat. "Between October 28th and Novem ber 2nd, we overcame the enemy’s re sistance in a new region, that of ■lexandria and Sandomir. On No- Biember sth, the Austrian army in 'Galicia was c impelled to retreat. Following up our successes during eigthteen days, on a front of 330 miles, we broke the resistance of the enemy who is in full retreat. This victory wt owe to the grace of God, who ■desses the superhuman heroism of Four admirable warriors of whom Rus sia has a eight to be proud.” NO INFORMATION, BEIRUT LANDING Neither State Nor Navy De partment Has Received Ad vices Regarding- U.
