London, 3:44 a. m.—The Petrograd correspondent of The Daily Mail, sends the following: "It now is admitted semi-offieially, but not ;et mentioned in the official communications, that it was the failure of the German crown prince to hold his position in the center which compelled a retreat along the whole line. While General von Hindenburg on the left and the Austrians on the right w'ere both maintaining their positions, the crown prince's army was fleeing back to the fatherland. London, 4:40 a. m.—The Chronicle today describes the nature of the of fense of Lieutenant Mors, a German officer, who recently was imprisoned for life for espionage at Alexandria, Egypt. Mors was despatched to Egypt five years ago and succeeded in being ap pointed a lieutenant in the Egyptian gendarmerie. His real mission, ac cording to the Chronicle was to foment a local rebellion among the various na tionalist princes and to get them to agree to assist him. CONFESSES TO MURDER OF TWO Lonely Farm House Mystery Cleared Up-- Bodies of Aged Couple Cremated After Killing Poughkeepsie, N. Y.—The death of George Voshurg and his wife In their lonely farm house near Pine Plains during the Christmas holidays of 1912 was stripped of Its mystery today by the alleged confession of John Wood, a farmer. Wood told the district at torney and the sheriff that he with three companions slew the couple with an axe, robbed them of SBOO, and then burned down the farm house. The charred bodies were found In the cel lar. The district attorney placed Wood under arrest and announced that he had confessed the crime, bpcause he could no longer endure the tortures of conscience and wished “to clear his soul.” Upon information said to have been furnished by Wood, Jesse Pells. Orvtl Smith and Oscar Post, his alleged ac complices. were arrested near the vil lage of Pine Plains later In the day. Wood was quoted as telling the fol lowing story of tho crime: “Post started the whole thing. Vos burg had a chattel mortgage for about SSO on his furniture and was going to foreclose. Post got me. Pells and Smith and we went In the night to Voshurg’s house, first securing an axe from the woodhouse on the farm of Ja cob Hinsdale, where I worked. "Post knocked at the door and Vos burg opened it. Post demanded the mortgage and Voshurg refused to give It up. Then he ordered us away. Vos hurg then secured a revolver which he fired once when Post swung the axe on his skull. I guess It killed Vos hurg Instantly. Post dropped the axe and entered the house. We followed. Found SBOO. “Mrs. Voshurg came out of her room, Pells caught up the axe and hit her like Post had hit the old man. Then we ransacked the house and took all the silverware. We found SBOO In cash and took that too. Thpn we opened all the doors and poured kerosene around and set fire to the house.
