I.el us lace this issue squarely—the ability of Fulton's Diabetic Compound to reduce sugar in many cases of Dia betes in people over fifty is a FACT IN PHYSICS, to prove which we will send sugar formula that will disclose the percentage from week to week Chemistry knows no favorites. The presence of sugar Is a fact and Its disappearance Is a fact. Theory plays no pari. How can there he a question about the reality of a FACT IN PHY SICS that Is being demonstrated daily by the weights and measures of analy tical chemistry? We have a letter before us from a physician whom the Medical Register shows to he a Professor In an Eastern Medical College. He writes ss fol lows: "I have used It In two cases (Diabetes) In my practice with prac tically complete results. . and have recommended It to fellow practition ers who hava also been successful ” The thirst often begins to aliate and strength to Increase before the sugar shows much decline: thus patients often know the case Is responding be fore the teste show It. Protest From Belvedere to Doubling Rates on the Augusta-Aiken Railway Says Company Bought Five Thousand Acres of Land at Five Dollars Per Acre---Wants to Know Why if the Road Could Be Run With a Five Cent Fare to Augusta When There Were Woods at This Place, Why Can’t it Be Run Now. Kdjtor The Herald: Dear Sir -I note In the article by your staff correspondent, Walter Dun can. concerning the proposed Increase in passenger rafes by the A. and A. Electric railway that he stales that the Land company, which Is none other Ilian the A. and A., that the sum of sls per acre was paid by said eon eern for the land purchased by them. The truth of this matter is lhat said company paid only |5 per acre, and purchased 5,000 acres. Bee record in clerk's office at Aiken courthouse. Through the middle of the above men tioned land their tracks were laid In a circuitous manner to Belvedere, S. <which on a direct or si might, line is not more than three miles from Au gnsta. The Iraek was laid In a snake like manner for tho reason that the longer the line the more lots could be found fronting upon said linos; and Ibe more "suckers” could be caught. The straight line was as feasible as the crooked one. For years this railway has had a 5-cent passenger rate ,to Belvedere. This fail lias induced many honest, hard-working home-seekers to Invest In lots along Ibis line, upon many of which their homes have been built. Many of these homes have about been paid for, when now comes the an nouncement of the proposed double In crease. Query: Was the 5-cent fare Used as a ball to enable this railway to sell 11h holdings? If at the beginning they could operate care along this line when nothing but woode and no passenger*, why is it they cannot do so now? Belvedere, if not Indeed the best, must be conceded one of the best sta tions on this system, as Its accounting department will show. innumerable times have the passen gers been forced to stand In the cold In the miserable little old pavillont?) called by gome a station, while the con ductor waved them aside, as in sten torian tones be called out, “Walt on tlie next car. This one la too crowded.” I am quite positive that such condi tions do not support the contentions or this corporation that this line Is a losing proposition. Come to Belvedere on any Saturday and this statement will be substantiat ed. Oftentimes we have as many as 60 horses resting at Belvedere on "ne day, while their owners are doing their shopping in Augusta. What's the matter with your M. and M.? Can they not see the crowded cars pouring v ast crowds of people into Augusta markets? Why, we shave In Augusta, wo buy our fresh meats In Augusta; many of us attend church In your town. Prac tically many of us consider Augusta our home—only sleeping In North Au gusta and Belvedere, which are simply suburbs of Augusta. To double the faro now would work greal hardships upon all of us. Will the M. and M. never realize that the A. end A. is the best feeder that Au gusta has today, hrtnglng more trad ers Into her borders than any other iwo rallrosds now entering her sta tions. I*et the M. and M. consider the heavy freight traffic between Augusta and Ihe Valley routes along the Horse creek. Two freight cars, laden with goods, leave Augusta's markets dally along this line. Now, Mr Editor, we would like to ascertain of tho gentlemen of the M. and M. whether or not this trade is worth keeping. In your editorial of yesterday you make mention of the fact that if the rate be Increased the palrous will have that much less to spend In Augusta. Why, Mr. Editor, should this Increase be permitted the patronage on the A. and A. will be decreased at least 50 per cent. Now, who will be the loser? The A and A. will receive the same money, while Augusta's loss scarcely can be estimated. Is this a logical argu ment? Aiken and Grantteville are only too anxious to have the rate Increased, as it means more money In their cof feTs. The fact cannot be disputed that we people along thtf line have made Augusta wliat she is today, In a great measure. We are part and parcel of you, therefore are you going to sit Idly by with folded hands and see us w ronged and your own prosperous and beautiful city Injured? Yours verv respectfully, JAMES E KERR. TACKLES AND ONE GUARD YET TO BE CHOSEN BY NAVY Annapolis, Md. —The navy roaches have not decided who shall fill three of the line positions in Saturday’s game with the army, fine guard and both tackles are yet to he selected. The line, particularly the left wing admittedly is too weak to withstand slashing attacks. Kennedy, who has been playing left tackle. Is considered too light, hut McCoaeh, Reed and De mode, all of whom have had a try at right tackle, have not given complete satisfaction, tlraf seems certain to fill left guard, hut the selection for the other side of center is a problem The probabilities favor Mills, a husky fresh man of 190 pounds, who, however, does not know a great deal about the game. K H. Jones, another 190-pounder, Is also under consideration for the po sition.
