NEW YORK^COTTON
New York. —After opening steady at
unchanged prices to a decline of 2 points,
the cotton market turned steadier on re
newed covering by December shorts,
with that position selling a couple of
points above yesterday’s closing figures
during the early trading. Later months
rallied to about last night’s close but
general business was very quiet.
Spot cotton quiet; middling uplands,
7.75: gulf, 8.00. No sales.
The export movement was smaller to
day, amounting to only 8,500 bales, but
the market continued firm during the
middle of the afternoon with prices
about 8 to 10 points net higher.
Commission houses reported some in
vestment buying of October while there
was a little scattered trade buying of
spring and summer months on which
7»rices ruled steady during the early af
ternoon and some 2 to 3 points net
higher.

GOSSIP
TO DOREMUS A CO.
New York. —Opening featureless, the
only trading of consequence was the
buying of December by Hentz and Cone,
but the selling of # both December and
new contracts was general on and after
the call. Schill and Mitchell being among
the leading sellers. The market shows
no snap and has a sagging tendency.
The general impression is that the mar
ket will sell off and there is very little
buying power outside of spot months.
